Well actually it's silage, don't know if that's what you guys call it on that side of the world. But it's greener long grass, too green for hay and they wrap it in pastic and let it 'pickle' DH who was bought up on his folks dairy farm says cows love it.

After we came home from a 2 week holiday, spring had come and the lawn was half a foot high. I got so much i was going to hide it under some big trees at the bottom of the yard to compost down, but it testiment to my true cheapness, I filled black rubbish sacks and put it aside to pickle!

As long as you squish it all down so it is nice and tightly packed, then get out the air. I just sat on the bag, then tape up the opening.

Just be careful with that. If the bag gets punctured *at all*, air gets in and much or all of it will spoil and be useless. So treat them gently@ And I would not suggest feeding it to non-ruminants because of the botulism issue.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
