Two weeks ago, I had a City Official come to my house and say they had a "complaint" about my coop, (not any of my neighbors, who LOVE the chickens and the eggs they get). Our city doesn't enforce "codes" about chickens unless they get a complaint.
Well, I not only had to find new homes for my six hens, I had to tear down my coop!! According to City Codes, no stucture for "fowl" can be less than 50 feet from the residence of your neighbors. My lot is only 50' wide!!!
I have been so sad!! Many of you know about my cute little coop I built with my own two hands.
Here area my links on BYC.

Now here is what the area looks like...

I am no longer able to post on BYC, probably because we have Windows XP and few places are still supporting that system. So if anyone would like to share my plight with BYC I would so appreciate it.
Then to top it off our beloved Spartacus

was diagnosed with Osteocarcoma in his right back leg the same week I had to get rid of my "girls" To say we are sad is an understatement!

definitely before pictures get my vote. i hate that for you. how close were they to the neighbors? i hate people who complain about things. i thank God every day that i don't have codes or close neighbors where i live. I'm so sorry you had to get rid of your girls. and poor spartscus is he going to have surgery or is their anything they can do? i know if that were my little emma i wouldn't be able to afford any extensive surgery and that would break my heart. he looks like such a sweetie. good luck

So sorry you had that happen. I wonder why someone complained.

That sucks. Time to go to a city-council meeting!

BTW, your operating system shouldn't prevent you from posting on any internet forum. Maybe update your browser or download Firefox.

The only remedy for Spartacus would be to amputate his leg. Being he is 10 years old, which for his breed is "elderly", we have opted to make him as comfortable as possible for as long as he is with us. The vet said if it were his dog, he wouldn't do the surgery. Usually by the time this cancer is diagnosed, it is already spread to other areas. He is a very special fellow! My brother's Bordeaux Mastiff (Lumpy) had this same cancer in his front leg. Lumpy lived about a year after he was diagnosed. It is sad to watch them go downhill so quickly.

oh I'm soo sorry, Spartacus looks like such a loving guy. i hate that for him and you too. i was an icu nurse for over 25 years and i promise you sometimes the things done to prolong life are not always kind. i am so proud that spartacus mom is strong enough to keep him comfy and happy for the rest of his life. bless you both
