itchy chickens ?

my chickens aren't even a week old,

last night I noticed some bare spots that the chicks were poking at on themselves

and instead of the usual quiet sleep when I checked on them late in the evening, I saw what reminded me of dogs getting an itch with their hind legs, several seemed to itching, not all, but several


they are just starting to get some feathers, would that be an irratant to the birds causing this itch,, or should I be looking for mites fleas lice etc.?

Feathers growing in can be itchy. My ducklings were constantly scratching.

Just look carefully and closely in case it is mites, but it is most likely just new feathers coming in.

oh thanks so much,

they were so itchy last night i was getting concerned for them, (and myself since I spend so much time with them, and of course as I wondered I felt all itchy myself,lol)

today they aren't acting itchy at all, so the feathers coming in seems to fit, but of course I will check closely for bugs
