Lovin' The Homestead
Lard is softer than tallow. Tallow used to be used for candles - it is really hard. Also used for soap. Less often used for baking now, though I suppose your average poor farmer of 300 years ago would use what they had.
Sniff test! Should be fine, though.BeccaOH said:So, how long does lard keep? I bought some lard rendered at a harvest festival last fall that I have in a coffee can in the frig.
Tallow is made from beef suet and is very hard....lovely (the best, actually!) for deep fat frying and for soap making.Neko-chan said:My question still stands! What's the difference between tallow and lard?
