I thought I would share a memory of my youth you guys and gals. I am not into the journal thing, so you might get a little snippet from time to time.

When I was a pup of about....6 or 7, my Grandfather(moms dad) came to live with us for the summer. It was the last summer of his life, but he sure made an impression on me. He made sure I got to see the Steam Thrashers show that used to be at the county fairgrounds a couple of times. To this day I love to hear a steam engine run, and would LOVE to own one!

Next thing he (and my mother) introduced us kids to, was Kingwood Center, right here in Mansfield.

If you have time, scroll through their "gardens" section. It is well worth your time.
After Grandpa was gone, I used to work at an auto dealership about a half a block from Kingwood. I would spend ever lunch hour there, strolling thru the gardens and looking at the flowers. This place is pretty stinkin' neat, and it taught me an appreciation for plants and flowers. It is also the reason I am building my greenhouse. My dad is where I get my green thumb from, but my mom is who taught me how to preserve it.

Great stories! I think its cool how our 'elders' have taught and/or inspired us in different ways. I know mine did. Not so much my folks, but my grandparents, most definitely! Thanx for sharing!

Great memories. You sparked a few for me! I can't smell warm garden soil in the early morning without thinking of my grandpa!

OH! I love the stream threshers - when we lived in Plain City the parade went right by our house on it's way to the fairgrounds. It was so awesome. The noise scared the bejeebers out of our kids who were just tots at the time
My grampa was always restoring tractors and stuff and lived right next to us - good times.

I have fond memories of my grandfather, too.

Sounds like your grandfather left a big impression on you. :)

OK, you made me have to dig up my favorite photo of my baby girl on parade day - she only went for the candy - and there's a peek of a tractor in the background. I will not hijack your thread anymore after this :D

Ok so I feel horrible. We have an Antique gas and steam engine museum right down the road from my house. I have never been there. I am now inspired to take my kids.

Great stories!!!
