So, yesterday I cam across and odd way to deal with head colds and the like.
Place half and onion on your pillow while sleeping.
I am have been so sick, and yesterday my sinuses took a turn for the worse.
I have been tanking on all the right supplements to no avail. Found out this has been true for everyone up here that is sick right now :(

I figured it would not hurt to try the onion.
I used an eighth of one, as I did not want to waste half.

I feel better today. By a great deal.

:idunno

Next time I get a cold, I will test this out again right away.

Sleeping with an onion? Under your pillow? On it? WHERE? It's weird, but if it works..I'll do it :D

BB, I wouldn't be suprised about the onion trick though I've not heard of it before. BUT when my kids were babies and had coughy colds and too young for most meds, Ma said to chop some onion & stir in some sugar & let it sit to make a syrup and it really did help their coughs. I still do this when otc stuff doesn't work even though they are now 9 & 11 and they hate it but it works. I've even used it too when needed. But the older/bigger you are the more onion syrup you'll need.
btw, I think there is an old thread on here that talks of this home remedy that includes a link if you're interested.
Hope you feel better anyway.

Just put it on the pillow? Sounds to me like you might be sleeping with an onion (or the ghost of one) for the rest of the life of that pillow now
Hope you are feeling much better soon.

I use lightly sauteed onions as a chest poultice when my kids have a lot of congestion when sick. You don't want them to get to the real cooked stage, but soft and pliable. I sewed two washcloths together on three sides and I fill the inside with the onions and lay it on the chest.

Slightly off topic, but might be helpful if you're feeling yucky still:
a tub soak with some ginger is great for congestion too - powdered ginger can work if you don't have fresh. Look up the amounts - I can't remember off hand how much to use but you don't want to over do it. It's a great detoxer and the poor man's alternative to a sauna - it'll open up the pores and you'll get to sweating in no time. Afterwards wrap in a cotton sheet and go to bed.
