Hello, I'm a friend of Denim Deb....well she brought me the most beautiful rooster this evening, and well he got out, and ran into the woods. What do you think, will he come back??? I'm new to all of this, but I really desire to learn to be self sufficient!! Question for anyone, I have a a set of turkeys in the pen with my hens. My female turkey left her eggs to set on top of the hens eggs. I just don't understand what they're doing! :)

:welcome That rooster may come back or he may not. He ran off because he was scared probably. Chickens sometimes do that when in a stressful situation(new place) etc. Leave food out for him and maybe he will find it soon.

The turkey...well they are kinda dumb  Maybe if you want her to sit on her eggs you should allow her eggs to be the ONLY option. Then, maybe she'll sit. Is she a first time mom to be? Sometimes new moms will not sit well :hu

Anyway, glad to have you here!

friend of debs!

the roo may come back when he settles down a lil and hears the hens :)and yeah...turkey dont realy seem like the brightest crayons in the box lol

:welcome Welcome! I don't have any idea on the rooster. Guess you'll find out in the morning...

I'm hoping he'll come back. I've had chickens do the same thing B4 when I thought I had them secure in a pen, and they've escaped! If not, I've promised her a new rooster once my eggs hatch.

Next thing we need to do is get her to answer all the question. I plan on corrupting her a lot. She's close, almost the same age, and has a lot of the same interests. Next thing I'm taking her is a load of manure. Figure she and her mom already put up w/a bunch of crap from me, might as well make it worth their while. :D

:welcome

My turkey hen will sometimes abandon her eggs. I think they just get distracted easily. I sometimes have one chicken hen and two turkey hens all climbing into the same nest box. I figure as long as someone is on the eggs it will be ok.

good luck.

:frow and :welcome from NE Ohio.

Birds will be birds, good luck with them!

OK, I don't know where Rena is. She was on earlier, but this is the first BB she's been on, so I'm thinking she might not have quite figured out how to post on here, so I'm updating for her. (When she was on yesterday, I was right there w/her.)

Pretty Boy started crowing around 5:20 am. And, she was quite glad to hear him. He tried to come back, but the dogs were out, and chased him. Hopefully, he'll come again when the dogs are not out. There are no other chickens that I know of in that area. So, if he wants girls, he's going to stick around.
