Would someone please explain to me what they mean when they say your deer scored xxx amount and what's the point of the scoring/purpose??

It's the number of points on the rack, the diameter of the horns at the base and I think the length of the main antlers. Say 2 people had an 8 point buck, who had the bigger/ better animal? That's where the other factors come in, it's basicly just bragging rights.
