I don't know if that's much of an intro.

I'm a married mom with kids, living on a tiny suburb lot in Los Angeles. I homeschool, have a garden, and a few chickens. I grew up in rural UT and sometimes get nostalgic for the wide open spaces. My parents still live there and the kids and I usually spend a month every year on Grandma and Grandpa's farm.

I am interested in food storage and learning to do the best I can with what I have.

When I first got married (a LONG LONG time ago) I thought I was going to die moving from a mini farm situation with dogs, chickens and horses to a one bedroom townhouse.

You never get used to living in the stinky cramped city, but your spirit can still overcome.

Thank you! The funny thing is, except for the townhouse we lived in when we were first married, this is the smallest lot I've lived on, (50'x100') yet we have the most prolific garden and the most animals! We've lived in 4 states and this is the first time we've lived anywhere long enough to harvest fruit off the trees we've planted. That was a momentous occasion last summer.

Current pics of my garden, Jan/Feb 2010:

These are our winter crops that we don't bother planting during the summer.

5 new boysenberry plants obviously not quite planted in the pic

Persimmon, nearest, and pomegranate. We had to remove some concrete and the pile of broken pieces hasn't mysteriously disappeared yet. I'll train these into hedgerow shapes as this is on a side section of yard.

Thats a nice place you have there in the city.

I just mentioned how many years it took me to get back in the country, but the country isn't for every one I know.

Thats great the kids get to go out to UT for a month a year, trust me they will remember their days in the country.

I understand how you miss the wide open spaces, I missed the woods and farm life as I was raised. So I headed back home when I could afford to move.

At my first house I had a garden almost just like yours. It was about 4 ft by 30 ran along the block wall. It was amazing all of the veggies I could grow there.
