Decided to double check with the city today about the rules and requirements for my classes. Did I need anything besides a business license and a home use permit. (Why do I need the city's permission to use my own home for something? rhetorical)

Well, there is this one thing. They also don't allow you to have people come to your home if they are in any way considered a "customer". So, I can't charge people to learn how to can, etc., if I am in my own home. Or anyone else's home either. Apparently Tupperware parties are illegal in our town, but they look the other way.

Well, I instantly went to prayer and instantly a thought came to mind that I knew was from the Lord, because it would never have occured to me on my own. I am not going to charge for the classes, and the people will be invited guests. I will give one class of each of the four topics on four Saturdays, and will mention that I can come to groups, churches, and homes and present my complete classes. If they choose to take up an offering or make a donation, I will be very grateful. But until the Lord changes the marching orders, all the workshops are free.

People are going to think I am crazy. But I know that the Lord uses the simple things to confound the wise. And I am as simple as it gets !

Chefs hold dinners at private locations. People can only get in my invite only. The guest give a "donation".

i remember Salatin writing something about it being illegal for him to sell butchered chickens without an inspection so, instead, he sells live chickens with the butchering thrown in for free. apparently that takes care of that!

maybe you could charge the attendees for the materials and the finished products that they get to take home and call the class a free "gift with purchase"....

Had an interview with our local paper this morning, and after it was over the reporter asked if she could toss an idea past me, and then her editor. An idea for me to write a column for the paper on frugal living.
