For my sil, the company that provides her propane is responsible for making sure she does not run out. Like they are never supposed to let it go below a certain level.

How does yours work? Is it a time scheduled thing?

Tanks - no, we are responsible for making sure of that. Being so rural, the gas company services at least 2 counties, so there's no way they'd be able to do that. It's one of those things that Mama and I forgot to keep an eye on; Daddy used to always make sure of it, but he passed away 7 months ago. Just another learning experience.

You could always heat up enough water in a few minutes for a warm spongebath....yikes!

I had to do that in college....they wiped out all the hot water to my entire dorm for 2 days when they had a mechanical issue. I just microwaved enough water to cover the bottom of the tub and kept one big bowl for rinse water for my hair and took a bath that way....everyone else on my hall was greasy....I wanted to smack every last one of them for not using their brains.

Sorry, we don't have our propane hooked up yet so if the power goes out it will be interesting. We have a generator for back up for everything else but our fireplace is propane. We have to pay an astronomical fee for a permit to even run the lines.

When we 1st got married, my DH and I moved into a small house that was heated w/fuel oil. We got married in mid-March, so it was still cold when we moved in. We moved in on Sunday. We woke up on Monday to no heat! The tank was empty. I called the company that my parents had always used and was told that they needed 24 hours to deliver! But, since we had just moved in, the did deliver $50.00 worth later in the day. (I know that wouldn't get much now, but this was in '83.) While I was waiting, I went to my parents house. It was just too cold in the house.

Making out pretty good - haven't been able to do laundry, but we've taken warm sponge baths, and been microwaving or baking little bits of food at a time in the toaster over (so far I've BAKED an egg and a couple hamburger patties!). Even washed a few dishes with microwave warmed water

Today is day 3, so we're praying they come today If not, we'll be making the trek next door to my sister's tonight with all bath products in hand to take showers - gotta get all cleaned up proper like so we can put on our Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes tomorrow

And also if they don't come today, it turns into 5 days, because I know they're not gonna deliver on a Sunday....
