Over the last couple of years I've been rasing turkeys I've learned a little bit about how and why they "talk". I ran across this web site https://www.nwtf.org/hunt/wild-turkey-basics/turkey-sounds I must admit none of the sounds my turkeys make sound much like these sounds, nor do they mean what they say they mean.

For example a "Purr" does not mean a turkey is content. It's used by both Tom's and hens to encourage close contact with another of the opposite sex. My hens purr sometimes when my wife's pretty rooster walks by and they will try to encourage him to come close to them. Same applies to the tom with Hens. Hens also make a modified purr sound when they lay an egg which is very similar to what is on the website listed under Purr.

I'm wondering where these people get there information from?

My husband's cousin is a lifelong hunter and was a hunting guide for years. He just loved to sit and watch our turkeys, he said he learned so much and was fascinated by the sounds. It was cool to see him admire them!

I almost hit a wild turkey the other day, it bolted across the road in front of me and then realized I was coming and sped up. I hear hysterical laughter from the backseat, and my 5 year old said it was running so fast it tumbled over the ditch and fell into the grass on the other side.

Lol sorry. .. that was totally unrelated but hilarious :)

We once had two tom turkeys that hung out in the barn on the property where we kept our cows. A neighbors dog killed one and the other one chased cars-he hated cars-and he got run over. They both were nuts.
