I kept wondering... so googled, and found this:

  1. Cooling and heating: 47% of energy use
  2. Water heater: 14% of energy use
  3. Washer and dryer: 13% of energy use
  4. Lighting: 12% of energy use
  5. Refrigerator: 4% of energy use
  6. Electric oven: 3-4% of energy use
  7. TV, DVD, cable box: 3% of energy use
  8. Dishwasher: 2% of energy use
  9. Computer: 1% of energy use

And

  1. Central Air Conditioner (2 ton): 1450 kWh/month
  2. Water Heater (4-person household): 310/kWh/month
  3. Refrigerator (17-20 cubic foot): 205 kWh/month
  4. Dryer: 75 kWh/month
  5. Oven Range: 58 kWh/month
  6. Lighting 4-5 room household: 50 kWh/month
  7. Dishwasher: 30 kWh/month
  8. Television: 27 kWh/month
  9. Microwave: 16 kWh/month
  10. Washing Machine: 9 kWh/month

I found a different site that said a typical modern 15 Cu. Ft. freezer runs 25 kWh/month and that a fridge with top mount freezer is way better than any other kind.

I think it could be the air conditioner, because it has a lot of power.

Yep central AC for sure... I have two buildings that are climate controlled. I was surprised though, when I had to run our heat pump on emergency heat during the big freeze. Got the electric bill and it was a lot less than I expected.

If that's the case then maybe I should reconsider using the family's air conditioner.
