This question was posed on BYC by another user, but doesn't seem to be getting answers.

Does anyone know if the use of d.e. in chicken bedding has any adverse, neutral, or positive effect on worms?

The situation i'm asking about is when you're putting the old chicken bedding (including d.e.) in your compost pile and then raising worms in compost.

Ummm interesting question. I don't have an answer but thought I would bump you back to the top of the recent post.

I am thinking it would have to have some affect considering, but then again, I use DE and just dump everything in a pile. Not compost but just piled up. Then at garden time we til it all into the garden. I have lots of worms in my garden. Maybe it depends on how old the DE is or how wet or something. Maybe someone will show up with more info.
