And yet another reason:

Tainted celery sickens at least 6 in Texas; 4 die

Big Agri strikes again.
I truly isn't big agri striking, it is the processing plant along with sanitation

Any corporation can have these problems including any products....as long as big production is required to get food and products like medications, etc. etc to the people, then yes, any and all products are liable to be infected or effected with any known problems.
That's why it's best to grow your own if you can. The FDA can't possibly hire enough inspectors to control all the problems that can occur with mass production. So if you can't grow your own you have to take the chance. I'm amazed we don't see a lot more of it.

problem is most people can't or won't eat locally in their area
our food palates have expanded way beyond a 100 mile radius of food stuffs

not many people can grow bananas, exotic type fruits and tons more different products---think of all those coffee lovers out there --haha
think of all the food imports we receive---yikes

lol

I guess when ya say it that way, we are super lucky they do as great as a job they do---cause with the amt of processed foods hitting the shelves more contamination could be happening....and sickness and possible deaths.
