Huge seaport docking here in Norfolk -- supplies aplenty come & go every day. Of major news here is the possibility of a longshoreman's strike. This would affect ALL port dockings on East Coast & TX.

Would mean a lot of truckers parked. No containers off loaded. Annnnd....imported goods sitting....
Coffee, sugar, tea, spices, grains and so on, not even touching on other commodities.

Got it??? Keep a watch on the news. They say 1 day down, just here, would need 5 to catch up. Nice 😵‍💫. And ya know they'll up price to recover.
Yeah, this is crazy. At work, a vendor already postponed a large device delivery once already. Was working with my core team and senior leadership to determine a new delivery date. We were all agreed get the stuff now, we'll store it until we can get to deploying them in January

i'm pretty sure those containers are plugged in to keep them cool otherwise they'd be rotten after just a day sitting in those southern hotter ports.
The issue is limited space at all the potential storage locations in the transit pipeline. A lot of the process depends on the large volume of containers moving along quickly.

The existing damages/losses from hurricanes is more concerning to me -- ag losses -- than tariffs. Some farm lands will be compromised for several years, or even loss to use. I buy seasonally &/or grow it. In fact, I buy limited amounts anyway. Prices are going to increase, either way.

Will there be lesser quantity? Maybe. Buy less, eat less. Still will cost more. Truly there's not a lot we can't do without. We think we can't but sometimes it simply the pleasure we enjoy.

Right now I have a canner going & need to move things to even shelve it!! Full pantry.

Reagan encouraged a lot of the way the US farms. Basic foods used to be grown and sold regionally. Then all the mega farms started getting the subsidies that were supposed to help the small farms.

CAFOs were encouraged by the government. My great uncle quit raising beef for market in the 80s because it cost more to raise than he'd get. He pastured and only grain finished. Some years now his farm loses money on potatoes. Those have to be dug so another crop can go in the field the next year. He used to sell directly to stores, but stores now only buy from middlemen who make more money for the crop than he does.

the sale on ground chuck was still on so Wed Mom picked up a few more packages (5+ lbs each) - i don't know what she'll be doing with them but when she came home today she mentioned making some burgers (as in actually cooking them) for someone but i'm not sure i want to do that - i just don't trust ground meat enough to want to cook it and then put it back in the fridge for the night - which means if it happens i'll be cooking them in the morning before they go and i still won't really like that either... no good way to keep them hot and the weather here is really cold this coming week.
