This very easy to assemble kit, even for a beginning woodworker, is an exclusive design by Cottage Craft Works. It is built by an Amish gentleman with the same furniture building techniques used in furniture factories at the turn of the century. Furniture factories built these types of cabinets for sewing thread companies to provide display cases to general and dry goods stores who sold their brand of threads. J & P Coats is one of the more popular cabinets, which are now highly collectable antiques, many running $500-$1200 or more depending on the condition.
The Cottage Craft Works reproduction spool cabinet measures 23-1/2 wide X 17 Deep X 19-1/2 tall making it an ideal furniture piece for most any room of the house as an end table or other accent table. Many people even use these in the kitchen to store spices and other kitchen utensils. The cabinets feature five drawers 19Wide X 14 Deep X 2-3/8 tall. These drawers are open to allow for storage of magazines, arts and crafts hobby supplies, collections, game boards, or other similar items that you want to organize and have easy access to, or use the cabinet for supplies in the sewing room.
The unique design of the Cottage Craft Works cabinet has the J & P Coats decals actually inset into the drawer front and covered with Plexiglas. This gives the cabinet and decals a rich framed expensive look. The decal golden background is also textured to look like a rich golden ribbon once the cabinet is completed.
The cabinet is constructed of 3/4 and 1/2" premium hardwoods. The pieces are all cut and ready to assemble. The reverse panel sides, which are the most difficult to assemble, are actually already assembled, as well as the drawer slides. This provides a very easy project for even a beginner for what normally would be considered a project for only an accomplished cabinet builder.
