Retailers caught selling certified organic cotton products contaminated with genetically modified cotton from India. India supplies 50% of global organic cotton. Blame goes to inadequate monitoring.
They get top $$$ for certified organic products and the consumer gets bilked.
My preference is for cotton clothing. I worked in a fabric store and my first year working there was fine, then Japan bought 10 years of US cotton, forcing the mills to use primarily artificial fibers, like polyester. At this point my eyes would be red from the fiber dusts and vapors from the polyesters.
I wouldn't be able to detect organic from non organic cotton and don't know anyone who can afford to test these products at home.
I'm surprised that they even got caught.
