We had Verizon when we lived out in Wyoming. Their tower was only 3 miles away, on top of a small mountain. We had 5 bars everywhere in the house, even the walkout basement. We moved back to Wisconsin and kept our same phones and calling plan. We had 4 bars most everywhere in the new house and on the property..
Verizon dropped us after a year and a half for using too much roaming - They dropped tons of people all over the country. The carrier for our area is not Verizon, but we are using the same towers as before - but now we only get 2 bars of service on our phones and they only offer 3G service.
And since the federal government declared that all TV programing MUST be in digital, we have lost over 1/2 of our over-the-air stations. Digital doesn't travel as far as the old signals did.

Oh but digital is soooooo much better.... more modern..... all that crap......:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:he:he:he:he

I remember must have been at least 10 years ago, getting one of the first digital phones as part of a alpha testing program. Sure it worked, but everyone sounded like Robby or Rosy Robot. I reported back and told them VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) has a long ways to go. It's Improved only slightly since then... Just 2 months ago, I switched completely to VIOP. But still get Robby or Rosy Robot occasionally.

Digital TV is a joke... Unlike analog you my get a fuzzy picture occasionally. But at least the picture and sound was always in sync. With digital TV the sound and video are frequently out of sync. And if your recieiver doesn't receive all it's packets in order or misses some packets all together, you get frustrated watching your TV and turn it off. That may be a good thing but it ain't so good should we have a national emergency or even local emergency.

We are supposed to get the 5g from the electric company next month and I cant wait. The DSL service has gotten even worse since they gave me a new router. Half the time I cant even stream anything. The other half the cameras keep going offline. Its really ticking me off. Prices are suppose to start at 50 bucks so thats about what Im paying now. If it works better than ol' at&kma, then Im in.

In the process of getting the electric at the new house in my name, I also got with them about the fiber optic line and the internet service.... paid my deposit and they have already marked the place it will come to the house....all within a week of closing on the house!!!!! I am so done with the service here at the house I have been renting, getting worse and worse. It is through the phone line, and since no one has landlines anymore, they old phone lines are getting in such bad shape and they won't put in new ones because no one has landlines anymore. Been a vicious battle to even have internet service - DSL - for work. Can't wait to have better at the new house.... So I will go to the new house to use the internet just as soon as it gets hooked up, then I can stop paying here at the rental for that. Can't wait to get some more done so that I can start moving some of the stuff. It is going to be tough waiting on the bathroom tub/shower to get replaced. And we are going to have to make the one door bigger, because nothing will fit going in or coming out from getting rid of the old..... Toilet and sink work, but no shower.... and believe me, after a session in the barn milk testing and getting splattered with cow s#@t.... you want and need a shower....

yeah, when we came home from the neighbor's dairy farm (my brothers helped out, i was too small for that but i liked going there) my Mom made everyone take their clothes off outside. :)

the phone service here is ATT and a landline and we are on the last two wires and the end of this cable which is a long run away from the junction box - too far away for DSL. it has been cut so many times that they can't even find a twisted pair any more. every once in a while we have to call them to find the noise on the line. most often it is mice getting in the cabinets. last time the issue was someone brush hogged the huge cable completely. the guy wasn't happy having to redo/splice all those lines (but perhaps he only had to do the ones that were left on there...).

i was using dialup out here in the sticks for many years before i finally was able to get a connection via a radio network that some people built up. there is someone down the road and around the corner that had them put up a tower on their property so that is where i get my signal from. not too long ago they replaced the antenna on my end because it wasn't getting all that great a connection so i got an upgrade in speed from that. which is a lot nicer than dialup...

eventually i'm sure ATT will figure out a way to get rid of our landline connection but we'll see... :)
