I knew what you meant just wanted to clarify for others as well, most use the terms interchangeable.
How was this deemed a fire hazard? I see two forms of "legal" egress/ingress, you have both a door and a window that a fully suited fireman can enter and you can exit.
If all the top outlets are dead have you checked around for a mystery wall switch, it was quite common to turn them on and off that way but still have power to the lower outlets. Otherwise some dummy broke the removable tab off of each receptacle - a quick jumper can fix that.
I can see heat building up in such a small area, the refrigerator over a full day would dissipates the same heat a 1500 watt space heater would in an hour, winter good summer bad. Hard to say why smoke would migrate to a stagnate corner unless some kind of air flow was drawing it there. Of course natural convective air currents could draw it there since its so hot.
