These show two strategies for using different kinds of vehicle jacks to uproot shrubs or trees, for removal. You can use the same approach with old fence posts that you want to remove (I think the "farm jack" or "jackall" type would nearly always be better for this task).

There's this illustrated article from Handyman

and this one on Youtube...

i just use a chainsaw & "ground prune" small bushes like that ;)

Yes, you can go that route. I have too. For me, it depends on whether I want to get the roots out for some reason.

correct
if you plan on tilling up that area you better get the roots too

Something that small, I would just use my chain and truck if I could get to it. The jack is a good idea though.

Marianne- If they don't, I'm sure you could still find a used one on eBay, Amazon, or Craigslist.

Joel, do they still make that kind of jack?
Hi, Marianne. There are two different kinds of jacks illustrated. The web link I gave goes to an article that shows a "trolley jack" being used. The Youtube vid shows a "farm jack" or "high lift jack" being used - another name is a "jack all" but I believe that may be just a brand name.

And, yes, both types are still being made and sold.

I have a jack all, and I got it at a yard sale. The seller knew what he had (and its usefulness), so I had to pay about 60% of new value - but it's been worth it, for all sorts of things.
