NH Homesteader's journal

They are super fun. They are also a super lot of work! And I've found the learning curve to be much more challenging than any other livestock we've had. Particularly the case for dairy goats. But I looooove them! And I love their milk!

That's the thing, they sound really wonderful in spite of the challenges. And the milk is amazing… I've been considering getting goats for ages, for milk mainly. I'm just a bit weary of the practical stuff like controlling parasites, etc. That sounds like a challenge sometimes.

I am just not dedicated enough to milk every day. I admire those who do.

Twice a day even! Lol. I have 5 does to kid.... And a baby human to take care of. Pretty sure they're not all going to get milked! I have two I will for sure dedicate the time to, and two others I might let the kids stay with until I'm able to do more (this summer? DH will be home normal hours by then). Or I'll do once a day with them... Haven't decided yet. The fifth is for sale. A tiny Nigerian isn't worth the time it takes to milk her!

However, I have a really really hard time getting around to weeding the garden so... It's all in what you enjoy I suppose!

My daughter was reading my Storey's Guide to Dairy Goats tonight. No, not looking at it. Reading it. When did she learn how to read like that??? Yikes! And she read a page, them informed DH if a kid was backwards someone was gonna have to stick their hand in and turn them around. Bless her, I don't think she knew where "there" is. Lol!!

Didn't do much today. I did feed the goats and give them a good look. I've got lice or mites. I hate winter, this happens every year. Only 2 of them are showing signs but we'll be dealing with that asap. Annoying!

Oh I did make corn chowder and brownies. Starting to settle in and start cooking again.

Tomorrow was my due date! Weird!

Tomorrow is my b'day.... you were "supposed" to deliver on my b'day. I probably should be sad...:( But, I'm so glad she's already here - especially cuz you feel so much better now...I'd be willing to bet you'd be miserable if you were still pregnant, lol!

Corn chowder and brownies sound insanely delicious right now! I neeed a brownie - especially since I've decided that after tomorrow I should focus on my own health - ugh.

I admire your daughter's choice of reading matter! Smart girl! How old is she? 5? :bow

Brownies sound tempting......

She is 5! She LOVES goats and she loves learning. She wants to show goats. Not my thing but she wants to. So I have to see what's out there for shows, and if she gets really serious I'm gonna have to add a new breed. Let's hope she's content with 4H, mini alpines are accepted there with registration.

DH was supposed to be working tonight but his coworker has the flu and won't go home... So DH isn't going in, because of miss baby. I thanked him profusely for being on top of that. Missing a few dollars is not a big deal! His boss is cool, so no issues.

She is five going on 25! I've always said your DD is something special! So.... my brownies are in the oven as we speak, lol. It's my b'day present to myself. If I can't eat 'em all tonight and tomorrow - they gotta go. I'll force myself!
