My sources are telling me that LED bulbs offering good output (bright and comfortable light), durability, good warranty (5 years), and affordability will be widely available in North America within the next few months. In terms of "affordable", I'm being told $10 and under for a screw-base ("Edison-style") bulb, equivalent to a 60w incandescent. Something that will simply fit your existing sockets. (That would be $10 or under in the U.S. - possibly a little more for us up in Canada.) Of course, they estimate these bulbs can last 20 years or more, but who really knows?

The brand name that people are most often recommending as the one that will best fit the bill of the above description is Cree.

A true relacement for an ordinary incandescent bulb needs to rate high on the "color rendering index" (CRI), which is a measure of a light source's ability to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully, in comparison with natural light. It's been the most challenging aspect for incandescent replacement, so the prices have been slow to come down.

Also - as many of us are used to 100w incandescents (or compact-fluorescent equivalents), I've inquired and been told those too will be getting affordable and widely available... possibly not long after the 60w ones.

I have gotten all led Christmas lights. Don't really even notice them on the power bill for the month. I'm looking into replacing the cfl bulbs with led when they finally burn out. I have put one led outside though as the cfl outside would take way to long to warm up during the winter and the led is a lot more instant even at the -15 F we got a few nights.

We have some LED lights. I like them better than the CFLs. Some of the CFLs make me dizzy!

Here's an online source that you may or may not have discovered yet:
https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/led-light-bulbs/

I may use this company as a source - their prices are extremely good, but shipping costs will enter my considerations, too... company's in Texas. But the other usefulness, of course, is that their online catalog could help you to get better familiar with LED lights in general, making local shopping more satisfying. Education about what's available... How do they describe a particular bulb? What sort of warranties are offered? that sort of stuff.

I changed out every last screw type light bulb in the house & shop even the one over the stove, with these LEDs from Dollar tree. Each bulb costs, yep $1.00. we just got our electric bill and it was a little more than 22% less. One of the better money saving things I've done in a long time. The bulbs paid for themselves times 3 in just the first month and they last for 22 years based on 3 hours of usage a day. It's a no-brainer :)

The lights are instant on, good and bright and cost $1.00 each. (Read the reviews). I highly recommend these form Dollar tree.

That'll work! And, we have several Dollar Tree's around us - I can hit a couple stores. I already have a lot of LED's, but I'd like to get enough to finish off what I haven't replaced yet.
