CC, I've got a friend in Wisconsin who has a place up in Canada accessible only by float plain. It's a fishing camp. I've only been able to go there once, but it's an absolutely gorgeous place. I absolutely love it there. I can link you up if you want to talk to people very experienced with dealing with owning and maintaining property that far out. I am certain you two would have a great conversation. I think they are there the entire summer, and spend the winter in Wisconsin. He'd be a good person to ask how they made it work.

My husband keeps telling me, "We're NOT moving to Alaska." Ive been reading him your descriptions. He only heard "arctic circle":th I told him that i never said WE were moving there... I'm way more excited about your idea than i have any right to be, but I sooo want to visit!:D

I'll take you guys up on that. Actually you could drive to cold foot, via RT 11 Dalton hyway.

Atually looking at the map Cold foot is to far north. But you could park off of the Dalton Hyway (rt11) and hike 30 to 35 miles up to the property. 4 wheeler or Alaskan 4 wheeler (horse back) would be best in summer. Dog sled or snow mobile in winter.

Any further north and you would need to hike trough the southern top of the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. That's the green shading in the following picture.

I don't believe this would be an easy hike!

Al Gore predicted the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice free in five years.
On December 13, 2008, Al Gore predicted the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice free in five years.

Gore made the prediction to a German audience on December 13, 2008. Al warned them that “the entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in 5 years.”

Beckley -- my fam is from Parkersburg & Elizabeth...same general area. (I was born in Parkersburg)

I just found this thread. Im from Parkersburg, too! Grew up right across from Belpre, OH! What a small world. I lived up there til about '93 and have been in Tn ever since. Last time I was up there it had changed so much. Big ol' overpass over the Kanawha River. Couldnt wait to get out.
Did you go to PHS? I graduated in '82.
