Ya'll have reminded me that we used to hear bob-whites here too - along with hearing them at my childhood home. It would be nice to have them here again. One of the biggest predators for birds around here (especially ground living bird) are cats. Cute little Fluffy is a hunting machine... :( And, if it's not Fluffy - it's feral cats. Ugh.

I've seen a wild pheasant once in my lifetime...:(

Got some more peas in the ground yesterday. Got lots of little pea plants coming through in the bed I planted last week. Unbeknownst to me I grabbed the wrong seed pack and planted shell peas in the first bed...thought I had planted Sugar Snaps there. :old Those are the ones coming up already. Only regret about planting the "wrong" peas is that I had intended each pea variety to be in a different raised bed. I wanted the Sugar Snaps in the larger bed. Oh well....the peas don't care, lol.

Got a few goats wormed yesterday with Prohibit. It' comes in powder form and you mix it with water and dose with a big syringe. It must taste horrible. Every goat tried to either kill me or kill themselves to keep from taking it! And in many ways it was a bit of a waste of time because I don't think any of them swallowed all of their dose. Sigh...

Cool and crisp outside and major sunshine! Whoop! Not sure what I'm going to concentrate on today - but for certain it will include lots of outside time. Can't let this good sunshine happen without me in it, lol.

I roasted a chicken Thursday, had chicken salad out of it yesterday and I think I'll turn it into soup today. Yum!

The chainsaw was delivered Wednesday. Batteries are charging. Need oil. I'm excited to put it to use.

Happy Saturday, ya'll.

We have sunshine today, too. If it wasn't for the SNOW still on the fields, I'd be doing more. Yes, SNOW!!! 5" fell Thurs. Soon, it will be mud...50s today & tomorrow. I didn't need that darned white crap, or mud.

At least I didn't have plants started as planned, since cold frame wasn't finished. Maybe a good thing after all. :old Guess old man winter felt we needed a reminder, after all our great weather past 4 months. Just a little note card would have worked....:he

And, as you may have seen in the coffee thread, BYH, 2 FF does thought it was a good time to kid. NO!! It's chaotic here. LOL. The only good? Roads were clear! They had brined them and snow melted there, so a plus. Driving was ok.

PEAS -- well, they're all good...enjoy!

I'm so jealous! We're not there yet...last of March/first of April before we have little ones around here. when I was working I always bred for Spring Break deliveries. Waited a bit longer this year just incase it was cold and rainy over spring break. Now I'm kicking myself because we've had such a mild winter and relatively dry - comparatively speaking.

The girls are making little udders - they're so cute! I decided today to start getting the FF's accustomed to me squeezing their butts when checking ligaments. They didn't care. That's a step in the right direction. Looks like most of the FF's will be delivering singles....maybe one with twins but definitely not certain. My biggest Nubian doe is looking like she's carrying a wide load. I'd be happy with nothing more than twins. No trips, no quads...just twins!

Caught a pic of some contented pigs the other day. They really have the life don’t they? Somebody brings them their food, they have a bunch of hay to cozy up in and enjoy the sunshine. Yep, not a bad life at all.

They DO! Minis are looking cute, too.

Ahhh -- if only WE could get such service & luxury.

Snow all melted. YAH!!! Upper 50s again tomorrow. Weird weather. Just stupidly weird.

My does were bred when the now gone buck decided! No planning. No dates. No fun. LOL Ya BTDT, I know. Just happens.

Not really sure how a lemon has the power to make me feel guilty - but they do. I have to walk right past the lemon trees every time I go out to the pasture. Seeing lemons still hanging on the tree while they've already started blooming for next year makes me feel downright wasteful. So, even though I canned about a zillion pints of lemon juice - I picked a bunch more lemons today, sliced 'em up, and put 'em in the dehydrator. I read the directions on the internet - so it must be a thing, lol.

Are you getting good results with it?
I've used it a couple of times. Yes, I like it. I studied it and a ivermectin resistant barber pole worm can mate with a non resistant worm and the offspring will be ivermectin resistant. If a Prohibit resistant worm mates with a non resistant worm, the offspring will be non resistant. I thought that was very interesting. I do use both, along with garlic barrier. I also now select for worm resistance and I will send one ewe to slaughter this year. Her worm count gets so high that I can't believe she is not dead. Her lambs are just as bad, they will be gone too! I have my eye on a couple more, they better shape up or they will ship out. Lamb or ewe sausage is darn good.

Have the termite exterminators back out today. Whatever they did a couple of weeks ago just pi$$ed off the termites. We're seeing evidence...ugh. So we called the folks and told 'em to bring more bait traps. They're installing them now. Unfortunately the guy only brought 4 more and we need at least 6. ARGH!

We got the chainsaw in the other day and DH picked up oil for it this morning so he's going to start whittling away at the shrubs in front of the house. That's needed so we can actually see the foundation and keep it clear. Oh yay..... it's always something. I'm debating how far to take this remodel. Is it enough to get new walls and ceilings? I really want new floors - but dang - they're expensive. Don't really need them - so for now they'll take a backseat to the necessities.

I've been trying for two days to order goat minerals. I get the organic ones from New Country Organics and their website is not cooperating. I guess I'll have to call 'em. I love these minerals - lots and lots of copper in 'em which the goats need. Also has a lot of kelp and DE. I like the kelp - but think the DE is useless. Eh... nothing is perfect I guess.

Bummed about the termites....
