What are you all doing to prepare for winter?

We like to use a combination of pellets and logs in our stove- DH bought a special screen to hold the pellets, and they are great for quick heat and then the logs give the fire staying power.

Anyway, we bought a pallet load of pellets on sale, and when my friend heard about it, she offered their (used) moving truck for delivery- then they helped us unload it at the other end. Saved us $75 in delivery fees, plus we had help with the unload that made it go super fast. I love having a MAG (Mutual Aid Group)!

Got the cottonwood cut down, which gives the solar panel several more hours of full sun a day. And now we have a big pile of wood chips again-- they had nearly half a load from their previous appointments and they dumped that plus the chippings from our tree

And the contractor finally had some time to come and fix the bathroom floor in the RV. It just needs to be winterized once they make sure there's no leaks.

No snow, but it's supposed to get down into the mid to high 20's tonight.

We don't have a chance for freezing until later this week. Late for us. Our first frost was beginning of September last year.

I switched out chickens from the drinking cups to the rubber water bowls today.

Our forecast is low 20s overnight! Unseasonable. I guess thats the end of my unheated greenhouse season!

I hung a heat lamp in chicken coop so I dont have to do that when its colder. I put a heat pad in cat kennel - which is also in my chicken coop. I will have to switch to heated waterer soon too. I need to find extension cords to plug it all in.

the normal fall routine is to go through each of the gardens that we grow vegetables in and get the debris buried so it looks tidy enough for Mom's perspective. for me it means digging a little bit in each garden, but for the rest of the garden i will skim it quickly with a stirrup hoe and get those weeds buried too.

it has been raining here enough lately that i've not been able to get outside much, but i snuck outside today for the afternoon and worked on burying bean plant debris, weeding and water flow things that are needed to keep the dirt on that slope from being washed away.

Ditto! Us too - even though the bill dropped almost $75 this month!

we've been running the heat most evenings lately - haven't had the AC on in a few weeks now. i sure don't miss it.

Gosh, and we are thinking about switching from propane to wood heat already! 😂 Y'all crack me up every fall, but I'm so jealous in early spring when you are putting your gardens in and I have a foot of snow! I don't envy your bugs, snakes, AC bill, hurricanes, or mud. 😂
