I almost like Biden, I believe that he cares, even though he is a career politician. It is his running mate who scared the b'geezes out of me.

I'm happy to be civil in this discussion.

Amen to that. I’m afraid ol’ Joe won’t last out a term....

Cold room benefit: place for DH to quarantine after COVID exposure at work. Coworker's husband and child sympomatic, coworker's husband was exposed at work from confirmed COVID case. 😨

I have just finally recovered from a POTS flare caused by an extremely mild cold 6 weeks ago. I had sore throat one evening, runny nose next morning, and that was ALL. But it was enough to trigger a POTS flare that made me almost bedridden for weeks.

I refuse to get sick. Call it overreacting, but just no.

I set up a cot with every foam pad and sleeping bag I have. Patio table and chair, coffeemaker, alcohol-based cleaners, anti-viral supplements, clothes, trash, laundry basket, snacks, lamp.

We had agreed on this solution before, but if he doesnt use it, I will... and IDK who is going to take care of the kids then. 😅

Oh no. That is not good news. I sure hope his immune system is up and running so that he doesn’t get sick.

The other family's test results came back. Coworker - no symptoms - negative
Her husband - symptoms - negative
Child - coughing - positive.

😣

Not sure what the timeline is for if DH was exposed, if coworker was asymptomatic carrier, if her husbands test us false negative, etc.

My plan continues to be isolating/distancing from my family. Makes schooling verrry interesting!

Weather is beautiful and mild today so we've been playing outside, walking, weeding. Kids call me on the phone incessantly. Theyre both learning phone manners, so thats great.

We have freezing weather coming in a couple days. That will be more challenging. I'm thinking to have DS5 take a couple days off school. So thankful for flexibility with his virtual school!

it is always my first concern, i don't care what party you follow, but if your world is suffering and showing clear signs of distress you better pay attention and start fixing the problems or nobody will have a good future no matter what their political beliefs and/or religion might be.

the problem i have with the twitch "socialism is bad" angle is that some problems require an entire society to be engaged to solve them. you don't get that through fragmentary leadership that cannot get the resources directed to the problem quickly enough, you do need overall authority that can exercise the power. go back and look at what happened during WWII and what was needed to get the entire country in that fight and to help win it (i don't think they went far enough, but that's another issue).

this type of problem is also one that seems to happen a lot with air pollution and environmental issues. you can't just let small areas self-regulate because they can shift their pollution or problems onto their neighbors or the rest of the world. you need effective regulations spread across all the actors to deal with the problem (ground water pollution and/or overpumping is also another tough one).

humans have too much power to be destructive, we cannot go on as we are and expect to be around in another 500 years. some people here believe in a religious system where they're all going some nice place and perhaps they don't care too much about what happens after that going away party or whatever, but myself, i'm not a believer in that system and i do believe something entirely different and i'd like to think that the world becomes a better place as we learn more and figure out how to balance our destructive aspects with others who have more constructive aspects. we desperately need right now to get more constructive types active and give them more resources... please give nature a break, learn how to work without poisons, encourage diversity, etc.

when the electoral college pact is put into force by enough states we can begin to see an important shift where each person's vote is finally equal to another person's vote. so i hope people will encourage their state to join the pact to bring about this change for the future.

ok, i'll step off my planks here... :) *splash*

we had to have our phone fixed the other day and i was talking to the ATT phone guy about the virus and how things were going for him.

they had an incident at work where one person was asymptomatic, infected a few other people but they figured out who they were and they were able to catch them before it went too far, but one of the people that was infected was also asymptomatic and their entire family was infected (five people) and not one of them had a symptom but each of them were shedding the virus for a while. luckily they caught that family before the three kids went back to schools (as the kids were different ages it would have been more than one school). a few weeks later and things were all cleared up.

i'm proud of my college in how they've handled this and are helping out in their community. so far they are managing to keep it in check.

as long as people keep cooperating we can beat this. i don't like wearing a mask but it doesn't hurt enough that i'm willing to hurt someone else over it. do i want to be responsible for harming someone else? not if i can help it. wearing a mask does help so i'm doing it. when a vaccine comes out i'll be in line for one eventually (i likely won't be able to get it immediately as i think that health-care workers and others who are more at risk should get it before me). i kinda doubt Mom will get a vaccine so all i can do to protect her is protect myself.

Wow, flowerbug, I can agree with a lot of what you write. Some problems need a "socialist" solution while others do not.

Healthcare... needs a whopping dose of personal responsibility and goverment controls on big pharma, and backtracking on almost 100 years of government promoted nutrition guidelines that created the problem, - but not free universal healthcare which would make the current problems worse.

Finance similarly needs personal responsibility (spend less, save more!) with government controls on predatory lending and other big banking issues.

Higher Ed.... oh boy. So that went wrong with "everyone goes to college" push in the 90s and 00s. Now we have shortage of trade workers and people who incurred massive debt. Free higher ed isnt the solution here. More trade classes in high school, stop glorifying careers that require higher ed. Stop pushing kids to college unless they have a clear career plan that requires it.

So these are places where I cant get on board with Democrats.

Another of DHs coworkers feels unwell. All it takes is the first person in a group to be asymptomatic spreader and the whole group goes down. Just sayin. 😑

Its chilly and windy now, and will be freezing by the end of the day. Freezing temps all next week, probably until spring. Living outdoors will get a lot less fun. (10 more days)

The cold room traps body heat well. Its has been 70s without using the heater. I woke up too warm at 78 degrees last night and opened the door to cool off!

Sleeping in the barn is comfy, its managing the kids and trying to stay out of the house thats harder. Yesterday was beautiful weather so we opened the windows and wore masks and I was inside quite a bit.
