if you rest you rust.
Truth! When we had our talk today I asked him if he realizes the reason I keep animals and do gardening. It 'forces' me to be outside and be active. If not, I'd sit on the couch and eat bonbons all day, lol.

I may _itch about it in the heat of summer and the cold of winter - but I can't imagine not doing any of it.

Definitely a contributing factor for buying 25 acres that is fine for cattle but needs EVERYTHING for sheep. On my first glass of wine to kill the knee pain.
The other contributing factors are BECAUSE I WANT TO.

for back health it is required to move it once in a while. the discs are nourished by fluids moving in and out of the discs and that is done by moving. there are no blood vessels going in those discs. squish the juice in, squish the juice out. be careful in the morning the most as that is when the discs are the stiffest, always warm up before lifting anything heavy or bending too much.

There are days I want to do nothing. BUT animals don't let me. There are days I want to quit -- short lived when I am nuzzled by a goat wanting to be milked. My own kids sometimes ask "why" I'm still doing this....so you don't have to take care of ME, I reply.

As a nurse, your DH knows he needs to do more...make him! Make a walk after breakfast and dinner a must. Start slow, increase every couple of days. When that's working, add some farm work.....

He will resist! Insist! After a month or so, it will dawn on him that he feels better. Get a shot, then start the walks.

You may need to have a few glasses of vino to calm yourself 😁 but do it, because of love! Just like you monitor his food, monitor his activity. 💕

That's why I put him in charge of feeding the dogs. My evil plan!

All good advice - and a version of that is the plan for sure. Will probably use the treadmill because the heat messes with his blood sugar. Exercise messes with his blood sugar. Everything messes w/his blood sugar. But, at least on the treadmill he's not fighting the heat and if he has a hypoglycemic episode he's right here. He can get off the treadmill and head to his recliner and we can treat the low.

I swear - he's so complicated!

Thankfully, he totally agrees (but execution is a little harder than promises).

Exercising fewer muscles at a time, for less duration might prevent hypoglycemia events? Think lifting or yoga rather than cardio? A physical therapist might be helpful in bridging the gap between inactivity and activity?

I feel this! Different symptoms, but same solution - use a treadmill to stay close to medical care. Good plan!

Learned that lesson the hard way. Years ago we kept an apartment on Galveston for weekend use. One night we decided to walk from the apt to the movie theater about a mile and a half away. All good on the way - but on the way back he had a severe low. Of course, he didn't say anything until he was stumbling and nearly incoherent. He's very brittle and his lows hit very quickly and very hard. I ran back to the apt., grabbed juice, candy and car keys and had to go fetch him off the sidewalk. It was no fun at all!

I ordered "Crooked." Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow...does he have a pump? Or those patch monitors? Over the years you've often spoken of the fragility of his personal diabetes situation. Pretty intense for him. It's a very complicated disease and creates a stumbling block of "one thing leads to another" problems. When the lows hit, they loose their mental capacity...fog happens.
