Chickens know no bounds!

Mine wont eat marsh cress either. Both grow in their run now so there is some greenery

Nothing in the garden today. Cleaning the hen den/ garden shed all day.

Monitoring ceonothus cuttings, seeing roots @ day 8.
Checked for flower stalks within the tulip leaves. Nothing yet.
Lots of unidentified bulbs are growing but not flowering.
Made chicken aprons for my feathered garden assistants.
Browsed for shade-loving plants just for daydreaming.

I am debating whether or not to grow sunchokes or not. I assume they will take over the bed I put them in, based on my previous experiences. The potatoes are storing well in the house, not quite a peck left, I will plant russets because they seemed to store well.

I have 4 crowns of asparagus in one bed. There is plenty of room, considering adding 4 more.

Will plant 3 okra seeds as a test.

Going to open up another small plot and plant mammoth sunflowers as a test to see if the Bambi herd will leave it alone.

Son and I talked on the phone last night for about an hour. He wants my advice in setting up beds. They have a small city lot, things are going to be tight. We will figure it out.

with smaller lots, houses being closer together and trees it is often a tough time to get gardens to produce. i hope it works out well for him.

I pruned dormant grapes. Every vine I pruned showed green cambium, so they survived winter. The buds are showing the slightest hint of green tip and getting ready to break bud soon.

There's just something satisfying about pruning grapes. I think I could be happy working in a vineyard in all honesty.

Hoping to see some grapes on a few vines. Though I'm not expecting much if anything, the vines are a little less than one year old.

I walked out in the garden to test the soil. Just barely didnt sink in most of it. Only a few spots.

I think I'll set up the greenhouse in the lawn beside it as it's sturdier there. Can move later

My husband and I made a herb planter from a pocket planter on a pallet. I will post a picture in a bit.

I learned a bit about my soil geology - it's called Coleman type. 85% clay loam with moderate draining abilities. 4% minor components with poor draining. Not sure about the remainder (11%) or why they decided not to elaborate. 0 to 7% slope. Of alluvium and calluvium origins. Mean annual temperature 52°. About ~22" to water table. 80 inches to bedrock. General water quality in our watershed needs improvement.
(I can't afford a lab soil test, or choose not to prioritize it)
