I'm one of two assistant Superintendents for our County Fair for the Canning & Dehydrating Group. The main Super asked me to set up a 72 hour emergency prepared table. BUT! It has to be canning and dehydrating focused.

So far I've made:
1. Crisco candles in a pint and quart jar, and a sardine can candle with two tiny bits of birthday candle as wicks
2. Meals in a jar - I've got three bfast made and one dinner made so far
3. I will add in headlamp, cooling rack and sterno, coconut oil cus it lasts for a long time, can opener.
Still looking for ideas.
Fair is August 1st for 10 days.

Matches sealed up. Meds. First aid. Battery radio. Water.TP. soap. Tarp. Solar blanket. Powdered milk, instant coffee. A pan to cook, heat water.

Maybe a local business would display a small solar generator....with buy info .

Those come to mind. Some may not fit for "can/dehy" but.....

shelter, water, heat, light, toilet, toilet paper, food, water to flush the toilets, blankets, pillows a safe place to sleep... living out of a car for a while and camping teaches you how little you can get by on for a while, but it also makes you appreciate that a car can provide the shelter, heat, light and be a safe place to sleep when you can't find a space to set up a tent. if you are in a place with a lot of bears you don't want to have a lot of food in the car... luckily i didn't ever spend a lot of time in places that had a lot of bears that would come too close.

Have a watch of the video, I learned a lot from her. Plus all dollar tree items removes the excuse of building a 72 hour emergency preparation kit is too expensive. Thats about all I have to say.

All of that, including food is in her video. I'm not promoting her video but watching it was a great learning experience for me. And super budget friendly all from dollar tree.

Olive oil lamp is safer. They tend to go out if knocked over. Easy to make with a cereal bowl, or even a tea cup. Pull a cottonball and twist into a thicker wick to lay against the side of bowl. Cleans off Corelle and even my ceramic Japanese tea cups fine when done. It's the basis that button lamps were made from except hotter burning oils shouldn't have wick against side so button lamp was solution.
