Cornish Cross 2025

Rain stopped! I got meat in big cooler plus some feral hog cuts. And some other meat, she is making a haul. Her chicken total is $528. I’m going to Athens Greece with her and family in September 2026. My share comes to just under $800. The chicken is going towards the trip money, she said don’t worry about the rest, so I’m pounding her with more meat. LOL

Just got text, gotta change clothes and go!

Greece is lovely. Mountainous but very nice. Italy is my choice if ever I moved out of USA. 🤣 Don't see that happening. Been over 25 yrs but, visited all the historic ruins everywhere over there. Even an audience with the Pope. Long story.... Pompeii is amazing.

I got back about an hour ago. We met at Woody’s Smokehouse. It’s a destination kind of place. Right on the interstate, there’s tons of traffic. It’s on the southbound side. They built a new one on the northbound side and both stay busy. When I left, I went to the northbound side and bought smoked boudain off the lunch counter. I just ate half a piece.

I stopped a Walmart in Crockett for groceries. Now I need a nap!

I made a quick trip to Corpus Christi Tuesday to see a school play my middle granddaughter was in, came back Wednesday. I took them 65 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast, leg quarters, ground chicken, chicken pan sausage and a couple packages of buffalo wings. They were delighted.

The chickens that have paid for my ticket to Greece and the chickens that I took to my DD and family were the cull show chickens that my friend gave me. I fed them out to slaughter. She even gave me feed, as they grow to the next level, they switch feed. So basically these were all free, I just put the work in them.

Yesterday I started slaughtering the “bought” chickens for 2 orders I have. I got 14 slaughtered, processed and in the freezer. Started at 9 AM, finished at 10 PM. Doing evening chores felt like a break. My shoulders were so sore last night that I took a 15 minute wine break. Only 4 more left…. And I finished them. Whew. There’s 34 more out there. This will resume on Monday,

Doing chores yesterday evening, I opened the doors to the shed to find two copperheads nestled on the alfalfa crumbs. Uhhh…., Nope! NOT reaching for a flake of alfalfa! I went and got a square point shovel and a machete. I slammed the shovel on both, whacked the bigger snake with the machete. Unfortunately when I shifted my weight to whack the bigger snake, I let up on the shovel just enough for the smaller snake to get away.

Copperheads are beautifully dangerous snakes. Glad you were able to rid the danger of one 👍
