Dr. Huey is a common rootstock used for grafted roses. I purchased a Rugosa rose quite a few years ago that was labeled "own root". Rugosa roses sucker and this one didn't. The spring of 2024 I found out why when I saw a red rose in the middle of my Rugosa rose bush. The Rugosa rose graft died and the rightful owner of the rootstock took over. This is Dr. Huey early June, 2025. Very vigorous and absolutely loaded with beautiful blooms! The blooms last on the bush a long time also. No fragrance though. The bush was stunning. My opinion is that Dr. Huey should be given more credit than having his head chopped off to be implanted with another rose. Own root roses are always healthier than grafted ones.
Glorious rose!

You mean harvest it?

we did plant a garden and included that in the mix. we never used it for anything and it really wanted to take over and spread (the goldfinches really liked it and probably also helped to spread it around).

harvest it for what? i don't think it is the same kind used as a coffee substitute (but i could be wrong about that :) )?
