Welcome! Long time member here. Yes, this place used to be rocking! I am actually blessed to meet over a dozen members in person over the years.
From my perspective:
1. The rise of technology for finding "how to" information. You can ask AI, watch influencers on Facebook, or look up YouTube videos. All without directly asking another human being and no waiting for a response.

2. Life changes. Folks I know from when I first joined have changed their lifestyles. Some have passed away, some have taken their life choices in a completely different direction, some are now empty nesters. When I first joined, I was married with 3 kids, had huge gardens, canned everything, raised both egg layers and meat chickens, and helped the BIL's family in processing beef and pork. But got divorced and had to rent for 10 years. Married a wonderful woman, bought our own place, but our needs are way less ambitious now as she has developed some moderate health issues. I have started looking at retirement from my professional life. I still can food and have a small garden.

3. My friends I stay in contact with ask me why I stay on this site.. there are some days where I see no new posts. My response... for me, this site is like a well worn set of house slippers. Very comfortable fit, has served me well, and I am too stubborn to let go. LOL This family got me through some of my low points in life, even when I was living vicariously through the successes of other site members.
Some mornings, it feels like a local corner coffee shop where I pop in before I start my day to check in on the crew.

Wow, where did all of this come from? Lol.
Just my two cents, the mileage of others may vary
Perfect response. And, I fully agree! Life just changes!

Our traveling priest was driving down from Anchorage today... the road through the pass was horrible.

And you will never guess why it was so bad....

(Insert drum roll)

The road had 6 inches of standing water!!!! The shoulders and ditches are all still full of snow and ice so nothing can drain.. but we have had rain for the last 3 nights!!

@FarmerJamie you already have what we're being threatened with -- a huge amount of snow! It is bitter cold!! Hoping I'm prepared enough for animal chores. It will be challenging IF we get 6+ inches. 😵‍💫

Wait & see what tonight brings. But, coffee now! 😁

Talking to a neighbor yesterday, I found that everyone at far end of my road had a 21 hr power outage in our ice event. Same power co but, I'm on a different circuit. I saw co trucks on the roads -- didn't connect, they were repairing outages.

That's going to be an awful lot of ice for a long time when your weather gets back to normal.
