Best foods to stock up on?

That's awesome! I love excuses to get new things like dehydrators! ;)

    Water Storage

I have a Water Bob in each bathroom. It is for single use, but if something happens and you do have time to collect the water before contamination occurs, it is quite a bit of drinkable water. Otherwise, bathtubs are far too dirty to drink safely. Very dangerous.

ok so whats the deal with raising & eating rabbits?

When I started raising rabbits in Jr High, I couldn't cull them. I had to have a friend do the deed. Once it was done, I had no problem skinning, gutting and preparing the rabbits. After a few, I was finally able to take over and do it all. My wife was raised differently than me. I come from...

Thanks! Any suggestions on livestock transport companies to get me started on my search?

    Shipping Rabbits / Small Animals

Thanks for the info! I was asking because land transportation isn't an option and receiving the rabbits is important for meat production on their end (I'd be the seller).

    Water Storage

We store water in several ways. We have our 55 gallon water storage barrels that are good for drinking, washing, etc. We can get them locally (used for Coca Cola syrup) for about $12 each. Then we have 5 gallon "water cooler" containers for drinking. Then a Water Bob for storing water in the tub...

Best foods to stock up on?

If you garden, you should really practice canning. Also look into dehydrating. It doesn't last as long, but still lasts longer than not. Meat is another great thing to bottle. It is extremely tender and lasts a long time. Rabbit and chicken are great! Besides that, we get a few months supply...

Does anyone have any experience shipping (air cargo) rabbits (or small animals like rabbits)? If so, what kind of prices, container, etc. did you use? Thanks in advance!

ok so whats the deal with raising & eating rabbits?

Thank you! Ya, I spend a fair amount of time over there as well. Been looking through this place too so I thought I'd chime in a bit. I personally have pedigreed rabbits, but my goals are meat production and good meat producing stock. For that, pedigrees are good just so you know where you're...

ok so whats the deal with raising & eating rabbits?

Great advice! Start with just a trio with a goal for more. You WILL make mistakes. With a trio, your mistakes are small. If you jump in with a bunch of rabbits, those same mistakes will be big. Learn what you need to learn, make your mistakes, then add more rabbits. Ain't that the truth! It's...

Best foods to stock up on?

Are you looking for already canned foods or are you looking at canning your own and buying in bulk (like rice, beans, wheat, etc)?

    Hello from Arizona!

Just thought I'd check in and say hello from the Phoenix, Arizona area! I've been very active in self-reliance and provident living for quite a while. I have an online preparedness store, blog on the subject, participate in various other forums, have a decent sized rabbitry, raise chickens...

ok so whats the deal with raising & eating rabbits?

The actual meat weight also depends on the breed. If you get a large boned rabbit like a Flemish Giant, your meat % will be much lower than a tiny boned rabbit like NZW, Americans, Californians, Palominos, etc. Also, at 8 to 10 weeks you're first impression will be that they're not big enough...
