Loved your blog! The library looks absolutely gorgeous- the molding idea is outstanding. The plaster work that you did look really great too! What a lovely nest you are building!
Well, k15n1- you certainly are Mr. Negative. You took four words out of my post and made it sound like I don't like to get my hands dirty. I really think it might be rude to ask my customers to wait for service, while I add flour to my hands and rinse. I do make my own bread-both with the...
Obviously, you do not need to use a bread machine to make bread... For my schedule, I enjoy using it. It keeps the mess to a minimum- no dough on my hands. I work from my home, so you know anytime you are elbow deep in something- a customer comes in! I do enjoy making bread without the...
I do use bread flour- I think that makes a bit of a difference. I would recommend trying it, and seeing if you think it makes a difference to you. Yes, I buy wheat gluten in the baking aisle. I have three big canisters on my counter- whole wheat flour, regular flour, and bread flour!
I have made all our bread for years. It has become a habit now. In the last year, I have started with rolls (hamburger, hot dog, and dinner) as well. The bread recipe that I make every week is mixed in the bread machine and baked in the oven. It is super easy. For those of you who don't...
I can't believe the food industry hasn't responded to this problem!! I am surprised anybody is still buying meat in a grocery store! I am thankful for the pig in my freezer- half a cow later this month. It is so comforting to know the people you are buying meat from- and to see how they raise...
I have nothing against culling a bird you don't want- but just want to add, those feathers will grow back and she will lay again...She won't need a sweater. For reasons I don't understand, my chickens always molt in the coldest weather. I have 4 and 5 year old birds still laying. Not to say, a...
As others have said- I bake my own bread and keep the heels and any odd shaped pieces in a bag in the freezer. When I need bread crumbs- I thaw and run through the food processor. Works great. I just used a whole bunch of that frozen bread for Thanksgiving stuffing- so I need to start a new...
I already copied you! I saw those great pics and planted crimson clover all along my fence line in the big garden. It is just sprouting right now- so I hope it will winter over. Haven't graduated to the aisles yet, but I am moving my way there. Thanks for the inspiration!
I would be hoping the crazy lady (choice A) comes to her senses! 24 acres would be wonderful and the house sounds great. Three acres really isn't a lot-especially with dreams of large livestock. Of course, many people have less land then that- but I think with your homesteading dreams you...
Here is the problem with any table, potting bench or the like.... I can never seem to stop myself from making it a catchall- and when I need it, the surface is always piled high!! I hope you are better about things in their proper place, than I am!
I just made calandula salve the other day. It was super simple- and using the beeswax was really cool. Sounds like your recycled chapstick tubes will work perfectly! Rinse before you melt, so your honey doesn't burn during the melt.
We usually rinse the wax/comb in water and let it dry before melting. We use a crockpot (used only for this purpose) to melt- but for such a small amount I would use the microwave...Good luck!
