Can't go wrong with greens for sure! Nothing better than a pot of greens w/some ham or sausage simmering on the stove. Skillet of cornbread to go with... mmmmmmm!

I still haven't even started seeds for anything. Greens will be direct sowed so at least that's a little easier. The brooder is going so I'll set up my seed trays on top of it. The bottom warmth will give them a nice start.

In that brooder are 20+ quail chicks that will need to be moved out before the upcoming hatch mid-week. Fingers crossed for silkie chicks! Got a first egg from a partridge silkie yesterday. It's an eeny, teeny, tiny little egg so it'll be consumed rather than incubated.

DGS will be here Monday! I think I have all the groceries we'll need. Been giving some thought to a menu. There will be a pork shoulder that will transform into pulled pork. Yummy and versatile. We've eaten it on buns, stuffed into potatoes and it makes killer nachos! Also considering a big ol' batch of enchiladas, charro beans, guacamole and probably some queso to go with. Sausage, pepper and onion subs might happen one day. DGS will sometimes make a big pot of chicken and dumplings. He's a great cook! Oh - and brownies are mandatory, lol.

Headed for a second cup. That should give me the ummmppphhh to hit the ground running. Lots to do and little time to do it.

Oh, the joys of pulled pork! did one about a week ago & have some frozen for later. Shared with DD & DS. Haven't had the Mexican delights in a while. Cooking for 1 has pros & cons.

We have a coastal storm arriving later today for the weekend. Screwed up goat auction and the trip for 5 rolls of hay. Rescheduled for hay.

Ewwwww! Nothing like a storm to screw up weekend plans. Hope it's not too bad.

I still need to get more winter hay. Supplier has said he'll be cutting this month and I'll probably get 12-15 more.

A couple of the gals are getting some nice round bellies. Kinda getting anxious to see what this kidding season brings!

Been a busy couple of days with DGD and his gal friend here. They got in Monday evening. Tuesday we saw a movie, and went to a chinese buffet for dinner. Today there will be bowling.

We had our big Tex-Mex dinner Monday; Chinese yesterday and today will be pulled pork. No extra chores have been accomplished - basics only. Weather has been ok - lower humidity than usual but still hitting the 90's. I heard a rumor that we might have another cooling episode on the way. I'm ok with that!

I hear movement upstairs so I need to get busy!

DGS and his girlfriend just left. Breaks my heart to see them drive away. However - I'll see him again before he heads off to basic.

We had tons of fun! We did a whole lot of eating, a whole lot of fishing and played Monopoly last night. They even stayed an extra day - which I very much appreciated! DGS's girlfriend is a pure joy and she fits right into our craziness! Young love is so sweet and special and they've got it bad!

Gotta get back into farm routine now. Got a few critters that need some parasite reduction. I'll get on that today. Looking like there's a little rain around us - hope it finds its way over here. We could use some.

I have a friend, who raised her grandson from age 5. He signed up for the army a few months ago, and was just sent off to "conditioning" camp. You see, at 23, he's overweight and out of shape, except for his thumbs. (her words). Its a 6 month camp, and then he'll be sent to basic.

Hoping your GS is able to go straight to basic and enjoys every tough and demanding moment there!!

wow! GL to GS and his GF. it can be a real challenge.

I've never heard of conditioning camp! I wonder if they'd take me, lol. DGS will definitely go straight in. He's very athletic and very self-driven. An all-around fantastic kid. Oops - I've gotta stop calling him a kid. He'll be 19 in November.

His younger sister, and my oldest granddaughter, will be 18 in a few days. Those two are only 11 months +3 days apart. My daughter had her hands full with two babies that close in age!
