one of the hardest things here has been getting Mom to use less soap than she thinks is enough... finally got her dialed in at last. she was using 2-3 times as much as was needed and it was making a mess of the machine.

Speaking of shrinkflation, I was about to buy a gallon of orange juice at WM the other day when I noticed that it wasn’t a full gallon! It was a mere small 2.25 quarts! No way I’m paying full gallon price for that!

(Apparently the American orange tree farms got hit hard by some disease a while back and orange juice prices shot way up. Trees take years to replace, so the increase in OJ prices is understandable, but nearly 50% on top of that is not!)

OJ is a horrible choice in general (an extreme opinion probably). for the most nutrition/$ buy oranges and eat them all (including the peel - ok, almost all, don't eat the little nubby thing that is usually on there). juice removes the fiber and a lot of the vitamins so you're basically buying sugar water with some flavoring (that they add right before shipping).

I know you are right. OJ is one of the highest sugar content juices. I just happen to love it, and not-so-much like real oranges. No way you’re getting me to eat orange peel in any form! 😂 But even with the current elevated prices, it is cheaper per ounce to buy OJ than to juice oranges at home. It takes a LOT of oranges to make up a small glass of juice. At least it is better than pop. Which I stopped buying years ago. Only have that at restaurants now as a treat.

We've been juggling the household grocery stuff for a few months to pay for some unplanned expenses and to draw down the older items in the larder and not buy extra supplies (wife is a huge stickler on expiration dates, me, not so much). Going to be an expensive few weeks. The 6 month coffee supply is down to four weeks. Priorities!
