Sharing a recipe and menu plan

I've forced myself to get back into the habit of planning our menu for the week. It sure helps with preparation and it helps me clear the freezer and shelves. This weeks menu....... Sunday - Short ribs with barbeque sauce, rice(make extra for Tuesday), beets, peas and cottage cheese Monday -...

    Buying Lard?

Good lard makes wonderful biscuits, tender flaky pie crusts and yummy sugar cookies. I've also tried substituting it for shortening in a couple of cake recipes. The coffee cake recipe turned out well. I also use it to grease the bowl that the bread dough rises in and the pizza pans. My Dad...

    Liberty overall's help please

Sorry to hear this. Happens to us all the time. We get to liking something and they change it on us. I don't think I would bend the slide adjuster. I've had them bend and then they fall out. I was going to suggest sewing them in place, but you don't want that. What about sewing some velcro...

    Poll on laundry soap

I had wondered about the essential oils. Beekissed, thanks for your experience with the oils. I won't waste my money or time with it. Besides, our clothes just smell fresh and on days they can be hung outside, they smell better than anything I could add. prairiegirl

    prairiegirl...ramblings from our little farm

Hi there. Hope some of you might still remember me. I've been gone for awhile. I never imagined it possible, but last year was crazier than ever. I had to adapt and micro-managing every minute was how I spent each day. Enough of that! A long story, but one that we lived through and hope...

    Dusting! Feather Dusters?

I've never had good luck with the feather dusters. I have certain rags that make for good dusting. Old flannel that is well worn and the thicker t-shirt knit. Not the thin t-shirt rags from my DH shirts. His are so worn and thin when I can finally sneak and cut it for rags that they really...

    New life for worn towels

We can use a half dozen or more of hand towels in a day. Seems someone is always washing up. The hand towels are washed repeatedly and then eventually the edges begin to fray. The main body of the towels are still fluffy and absorbant, but the edges are all stringy. I use to trim and serge...

    Nutritious milk, cheesemaking, and pasteurization

Just something that I learned........ Shortly after we began milking I found a lab that tested milk for dairies. I live in IN, but none of the labs would test my milk. I had to travel to MI, but it was worth it. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that I was doing a good job cleaning and...

Punkins' world....SUNSHINE, seeds and no more drought!

I'm sorry to hear about this. I just finished writing out my first order to them. I hope you get this resolved soon. Sounds like you are giving that sewing machine a work out. I've been sewing myself. It feels good to be sewing again - I really missed it. Just have to make the time I...

Okiemommy's Journal **What I realized today about our journey**

Glad you are feeling a bit better. I was in a mood like that the beginning of January. I finally got over it. Sledding sure sounds fun. We have plans to get out and build a snowman today. That is if the weatherman is correct and it gets over 20 with no wind. I'd love to have a small hill...

    prairiegirl...ramblings from our little farm

Good morning. I'm still around, just not much these last days. Last week, was the mad dash to get the house clean. I also had my grandsons 4 days. This week, I've decided that the only way I'm going to get things done is to limit my time on the computer. As always, so little time.....so much...

    prairiegirl...ramblings from our little farm

keljonma, I still haven't got to those beans.LOL FarmerChick, we have 13 acres. It's an old farmstead that was sold and let go to die a slow death. We've been here almost 3 years. We are determined to bring it back to life as it was meant to be. It's a lot of work, but we're doing it - even...

Do you leave the rings on or off your canning jars?

The rings come off here, too. I always let the jars set still for 24 hours after processing before removing lids, cleaning jars and storing. I purchased the white lids for regular and wide mouth jars a few years ago. They are great for storing in the frig.

    Another Sewing Project

This apron is just so cute! The fabric is perfect for an apron. And, the embroidery just makes the apron. I need to get off the computer and sit down at the sewing machine.:)
