I use the "fake" canning jars for dried goods. Sometimes if I inherit canning jars, there are commercial spaghetti sauce or mayo jars mixed in. Those I reserve for dried herbs and such because they may be a slightly different volume or have thinner glass than a real canning jar.
I have powdery mildew pretty much all the time, especially on peas. Here are a ton of home remedies to try:

I've never heard of Kilner jars, but just looked them up and they are very pretty!
Ditto the person who said sugar is not the preservative in bottled fruit. You need heat to kill bacteria and create a sealed environment.
Obviously you are not in the US, so tell us, is that how people preserve...
wow, I've never had more than I can eat fresh. They are soooo good and very expensive here. I suppose you could dry them, make fruit leather, jam, anything else you'd do with cherries.
You make butter from cream, so you're going to need a whole lotta cream. Butter keeps beautifully in the freezer, so make as much as you want!

You'd probably enjoy getting together with other homeschoolers in your area. Look online or ask around for your local homeschooling support group. There will be tons of people willing to listen and to help.
