Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Very light sprinkley rain, going to stay south as it heads for @Mini Horses and the east... another possible round later coming from the north and west but we are only supposed to get .1 to .3 tenths... enough to be wet and dreary. Have animals ready for a trip to the sale today.... selling a...

Opportunity to move to a bigger homestead

So, where are you on decisions? Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back... Can you make a "dual" deal of sorts work with some things at one place and some at another? Sounds like if your dad wants to do a market garden that there might be more possibilities there for things...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

@CrealCritter , I will have to TOTALLY and EMPHATICALLY VETO any attempt to milk from the other side of the gate... mostly for the reasons stated with the possibility of getting an arm hurt or broken, or a cow kicking the gate and injuring their leg or the person behind it., It is not safe to...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Also, why replace the red gate? It should not have that much pressure on it since it is in the "load out" alley.... Also, it should be lower to the ground... young cattle will occasionally look to go UNDER a gate or fence before they will try to go over it... we have had calves put their heads...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Agree also on the beagle influence. @CrealCritter make sure you contact the local dog warden/animal control and even a few vets in the area in the possibility that it got lost and owners are looking for it... Beagles are notorious for "following their nose" and getting lost from home and will...

    FarmerJamie - A new beginning

I got one at Home Depot on sale 2 years ago... it might be a gorilla... not metal but that hard "plastic" poly or something... 4 Wheels, payload of 1200 or maybe more... dumps and it will dump completely over the way it is made... I like it. But might not be as big as you want... It was around...

What did you do in your garden today?

Yes @CrealCritter ; that is the one I got. Mushrooms.... Hmmm... interesting... not something that really interests me to try to grow.....although I do like to eat them... but I am no connoisseur of them... just sauteed in butter on steaks or in salads or on an occasional pizza..... There is a...

What did you do in your garden today?

Ag lime raises the PH of the soil if it is acidic... neutral is 7... low numbers are low lime=acidic... higher numbers means the soil is alkaline.... Most vegetables do best in the neutral range... give or take a bit. Pine trees and some plants like blueberries prefer ranges in the lower end...

What did you do in your garden today?

Got a catalog from Fedco with fruit trees, root stock and berries and stuff... Interesting... I do plan to write them with notes on the potatoes I grew, yields, what I liked / didn't like. I have written some notes to myself on the "garden plan" I had on the notebook paper as I planted things...

Out with the Old, In with the New

That is soo great for you. I feel for the other carrier but that is life... sometimes it is just not fair. Having a set route, having better hours, and NOT HAVING all that stress is going to be nice... you won't know what to do with yourself...... How are all the animals? Still have the...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

We were 39 also... a forewarning like @Mini Horses said to get things ready. We got the cattle moved out of WV pasture yesterday and they were calling for some snow flurries...glad we got done there. Their trees were absolutely gorgeous... colors really changing there fast... This cold will...

What did you do in your garden today?

Finished the digging of the potatoes... will pick up the last of them tomorrow after the dirt is dry and I can brush it off... Then bring in and weigh each variety. I planted a whole bunch of different varieties... most all from Fedco Seeds in Maine.... @CrealCritter uses them for his root...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

@CrealCritter ; What your neighbor said, and @baymule said is true. If they are somewhat resistant to internal parasites, the pumpkin seed thing will usually suffice. There is no way to tell if certain ones are more or less resistant other than to do a fecal count; or just cull out the ones...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Might be the thermostat is sticking... they will do that and cause overheating... or can not close and the heat will only be lukewarm inside the car. Makes me think I need to check all mine and get antifreeze added to any that need it.
