My new laying hens are 2 weeks old today. Is it to soon to start giving them meat scraps or some fresh greens to munch on?
I have a really nice piece of pork fat left over from dinner last night, and I hate to just toss it out.
Back when my mom and dad were still alive, they raised a couple of steers for meat. My mom was strolling through the orchard one day, and found "the drops". She though it was so neat, that she showed them to ALL of her friends and neighbors.
Just a thought here........
If that GS dog is trained to attack on command.... that tells me SOMEONE spent quite a bit of time training him already........ Why not a bit MORE time training so he won't kill your goats? Sure would be a LOT cheaper than losing goats or buying fence.
Just my $.02...
If you need to sweeten your garden soil, recycle that old sheetrock. It makes a great substitute for lime. Just remove the paper from the painted side, break it up into smaller pieces and till away.
Very good points Icu4dzs. I am by no means a physician, but I also understand that there are a few other things becoming antibiotic resistant, like some infections.
I won't even touch on what all the hormones they feed the animals that we eat, are doing to our bodies........
Thought I better show you guys how far along I am on the new chicken tractor/coop. I built an automatic door for it, that is on a timer and the battery is charged by solar!
Waddaya think??
Before paint.
In primer. It will be white with green trim.
I am also building a 10 ft x 4 ft...
I was thinking about asking the lady at the counter if you were working, but I didn't want to get you into any trouble. Everyone that works there seems to be VERY helpful. It's nice to see customer service taken seriously.
My meat birds are separate from my layers. As a matter of fact, I didn't have enough room to put all the meaties together, so I have them in 2 separate containers for now.
One of my fathers sayings was: "There is a LARGE difference between an education and common sense" Having one doesn't mean you automatically get the other.
Last Monday I picked up my ten layer peeps from Meyers Hatchery. 5 Barred Rocks and 5 Golden Buffs.
Today I picked up our 36 meat peeps!!!
Chickens, chickens EVERYWHERE!! LOL
Things I have learned in my life:
NEVER work for, or do business with, a relative.
Never discuss religion with some one you wish to remain friends with.
Never be a "nice guy" in any business dealings. Nice guys DO finish last.
The more religious a person proclaims to be, the tighter you need...
