We just got rid of our so called "high-efficiency" washer. It's not very efficient if the clothes don't come out clean and you have to replace the pump every year like we did. Our new cheap $300 washer cleans better than our $800 washer ever did, and it was the number one choice by Consumer...

http://www.kidzui.com/ Check this one out too. There is lots of fun stuff and it's all kid friendly. The best part is you can lock it so they can't exit out and mess with your stuff.

Mandieg4 - Update and lots of new pics of kids and animals.

I can't believe it's been so long since I posted anything here. I guess I'll start with some new pictures. This is Madam Mim. When we got her she was such a witch!! It took a week before I was able to milk her without having to have my DH or FIL help me get her up. When we figured out...

    ...

    1. Get the kitchen clean - I've been avoiding it long enough (mostly done) 2. Do at least 3 loads of laundry - a week of rain last week has me so far behind its not funny. The joys of relying on the clothesline! DONE!) 3. Plan my October menu - I had this finished all ready, but I've gone...

    Drop in milk production?

Both of my cows have dropped production too. The only thing I can think of is the grass quality isn't as good as it has been. They have a roll of hay in the pasture, but they don't seem to be eating much of it. I bought some range cubes today, I'm hoping that is going to help.

Family Cows for sale on Craigslist

We went to the dairy sale here yesterday and fresh Jersey's without any issues were bringing between $1000 & $1800 (even the few cross breeds that I saw), good Holsteins were bringing $1200 & $2400. If I had the money and was looking for a family milk cow for the first time, this ad would sound...

What do you WANT to learn to do?

I want to learn how to make cheese. I have all this beautiful milk and I work too hard for it to feed all the extra to the pigs. Some is ok, but not while I'm still buying dairy products at the grocery store!

I'm a little confused on the directions. Do you use plain cream or milk with the cream still in it?

Nicknames - post has nothing to do with being self sufficient LOL

My husband and I had been married for 6 years before my mil realized that my name was actually Amanda not Mandie. I guess she didn't pay close attention during the wedding :D All of my kids' names can be shortened, but only two actually do. When my first two, Jacob and Matthew, were little I...

    fresh milk and cream

If I need more cream to make butter or something I pour the milk into a container that has a spout on the bottom. Then I use the skim milk to drink and keep all the cream.

Fels Naphta versa Octagon Bar soap for laundry detergent?

Is it just your clothes or do everyone's clothes smell like that? The reason I ask is Tide laundry soap smells like bad BO to me, especially after I wear the clothes for a few minutes. But the kids' clothes don't smell bad and they were washed with mine. I think its some kind of chemical...

How many square feet is your garden?

The main bed is 40'x70' so 2800 sq ft there, plus 10 raised beds that are 3'x6' so another 180 sq ft plus 4 semi truck tires and 16 regular truck tires. I guess just over 3000 sq ft total actual garden space. We also have 6 grape vines that divide the front yard from the side yard. Plus we...

    Question on Canning Peaches

Freestone peaches are best for canning halves, but they have to be ripe. If they aren't ripe they won't be easy to get off the stone. If I have cling stone peaches I usually can them as slices instead of halves
