How to Get a Tight Fitting Ring OFF

I've never been able to keep a ring on 24/7; it irritates me eventually and I pull it off. So now, I just choose what ring to wear for the day (which pretty much just happens when I'm doin' the fancy and going to town). At one point, I thought about getting a wedding ring tattooed, since mine...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

I haven't tried canning just plain mushrooms, but I used to can a pickled product called Hunter's Mushrooms which were delicious. I do both dehydrating and freeze drying mushrooms- each has their best use. Freeze dried makes awesome Bouef Bourginonne Now you've got me thinking about it. If the...

    Prepping/stocking supplies

Freezing flour doesn't kill the eggs (that's how they survive winter, after all). It will kill the adults and newly hatched weevils though. I read that a good way to do it is to freeze for a couple weeks, then take the flour out and hold at room temp for a few weeks, then freeze again to catch...

    A No Brainer

I think there's still only one company that sells home freeze dryers- Harvest Right. I bought the mid-size one, and sometimes I wish I had bought the larger one, although it requires a dedicated circuit.

    A No Brainer

I still prefer my dehydrator for some items... I think shredded potatoes for hash browns come out with a better texture (FD ones tended to get too mushy for me). My biggest issue with the FD is simply the small load capacity- That can be a problem if you have 200 pounds of squash to process, lol.

    Menus for Frugality

Botulism is very dangerous... especially since you can't tell by sight or smell that it's present. But it's actually fairly easy to protect yourself from it (if it wasn't, we wouldn't be alive today). There are almost certainly botulism spores present on most foods you eat raw or lightly...

    Mouse in the House

A friend of DH's services the local radio towers and told us what he does to get rid of rodents (don't want them getting inside and chewing the insulation off the wires!) He found that Big Chew gum (the stuff that comes in shreds) really works for him. Apparently they eat it and it clogs up...

    Menus for Frugality

Tortoise, I was unaware of how your life has progressed. You have overcome major difficulties! I grew up upper middle class, including marriage #1. After I had gained a bit of weight (about 20#s that didn't come off after the baby) he told me that if I was fat he wouldn't love me. Silly me...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

I was going to can some carnitas I made up, but they tasted SO good everyone ate it up before I got around to it, lol. I only had enough for one batch, and by the end of the day it was half gone, so we just kept eating on it the next couple of days.

    Menus for Frugality

If you have diabetes and can't get anything other than hi carb foods, you can mitigate it to some point by eating a lot of cinnamon. Cinnamon helps insulin work better. Also, I've found that if you can keep your calories down (which, admittedly, most of us Type 2's haven't done and that's the...

    Favorite Homemade Sweets

I can't eat real oatmeal these days with my sugar problems, but I found a recipe for a low carb substitute that's amazing; even my son, who doesn't like oatmeal, likes this. It's called N'oatmeal . For one bowl: 1/2 cup water (or more if needed for preferred texture) 2 tablespoons hemp hearts 2...

Knit/Crochet Winter Wear - share your pics

Like you, @flowerbug I am avoiding surgery as long as possible. I have a few exercises taught me by a therapist that help loosen things up, and I wear a finger compression tube at night to keep swelling down. Mostly it doesn't bother me much these days, as long as I avoid a marathon knitting...
