SS Giving - anti Black Friday

Perhaps your community has bulletin boards somewhere? or a free "newsletter" called Weekly Penny or something like that? Places where people might be able to post needs or extras or volunteer services, etc for no charge. Sure there might be people that take advantage of it, but the same can be...

SS Giving - anti Black Friday

My husband got burned on the Heifer Project years back. He and a bunch of 4H kids donated their best animals- the idea being it would improve the breeding stock in the third world countries they were being sent to. They found out that NOT ONE ANIMAL ended up in the hands of any farmers that...

    Easily Amused

I knew a couple that were rockhounds that eventually took all their favorite stones (some tumbled smooth, some not) and made a kitchen counter with them- embedded in some sort of resin. It was spectacular!

    Cast Iron

heating AFTER oiling causes the oil to penetrate minute holes/flaws that may be in the surface- making for a smoother finish. Mine has a beautiful shine to it after all these years, and works better than any non-stick pan I've ever used (plus I can fry at a higher temp than with a non-stick...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

A friend of DH had a calf that his (DH's) brother wanted to raise for the fair. They brought "Orange Julius" (for his coloring) home in a Corvair Van. Going down the freeway in Santa Clara County. Bright orange nose pressed against the window the whole way. Turned a fair number of heads. 🤣

    Cast Iron

I remember reading somewhere that flax oil has the highest smoke point. Might be a good one for seasoning, except that it also has the highest rancidity rate. That's why I prefer coconut oil- reasonable smoke point and takes a very long time to turn rancid.

    Cast Iron

I have an antique cast iron waffle iron that I love. Also a set of 3 frying pans of varying sizes, a dutch oven, and a griddle. They all get used often (some more than others). I use a chain mail scrub for any burnt spots, hot water with just a touch of soap. Dry over a flame on the stove...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Great Pyrenees are known for barking, a lot. Our girl does bark, but she has learned to bark once or twice and then one of us comes out to see if we can figure out what she's barking about. Once we tell her it's OK, she usually drops it. One of our neighbors commented that they actually LIKE...
