I'm canning for the very first time! :) 3 pints of leftover turkey noodle soup if all goes according to plan.
(I'm eyeing our little potato harvest too, we'll see what happens after this first attempt is done.)
Can I ask a dumb question real quick? Why do you need to boil the jars and simmer...
have you ever fed your chickens any leftover chicken? that's a fun one to tell about, usually puts sheer horror on their faces :D i'm amazed at how many people think chickens are vegetarian. purina even has a feed that boasts about not having any animal products in it.
i have walnut trees all over my property... hmm. :D
stuff like this has been going on for a while, though. i know a lot of people who make soap, for example. they'll make recipes that are geared towards helping with certain skin conditions by using specific natural ingredients, but they're not...
congrats!! :)
and hey, supposedly, letting chicks be raised by a broody increases the chance that they will also go broody when they grow up. so maybe you'll get more momma hens next year :)
unfortunately it could be any number of things... i'd also think about possibly worms, or an injury that you can't see. if her crop feels soft, but you don't think it's sour crop, i would wonder if she's not eating.
i would also isolate her (or even cull) and keep an eye on your other hens...
wouldn't cheese fall into that category as well, then?
also, to the original poster: buy a gallon of 2%. fill jug with something like 9/10 2% and 1/10 whole, or whatever ratio results in little discernible taste difference. let her drink it for at least a few days. slooooowly increase the...
be careful using them to store pet food - the plastic isn't food grade, which means it may be microscopically porous, allowing the fats that are sprayed on kibbles to soak into the plastic. those fats can then go rancid and contaminate the kibble. easy solution is to store the kibble inside its...
i don't know how your local AC/humane officers respond to cases like this, but IF they are the type to actually investigate and take action against the owner (i'm assuming the truck that dropped them was the owner, but SD brings up good points), you should contact AC right away. if you keep the...
those poor pups... i dont even have words. ugh.
so glad though that you were there to see them and pick them up. give AC a call tomorrow and see what happens... good luck with them.
Been a while since I posted here... been kinda sick off and on these past few months, mainly just extremely exhausted feeling. Boo. Makes it hard to do stuff. =/
Anyways though, we had planted potatoes this year, using the method where you continually stack straw over the plants to encourage...
they're so cute before they grow their clown masks :D
& forgive me if you know this, but having newborns on straight newspaper can sometimes cause splay leg if they can't grip it well enough to stand properly. paper towels are better for the first 48 hours :)
i'm glad to read that he's feeling better :) but i just wanted to say, a few drops of ACV did not cure him; more than likely this is either coincidental timing, or a placebo-effect type situation (on your interpretation of his behavior, not on his ability to comprehend being medicated hehe)...
(just to clarify: i really meant if worst came to worst.. like if he suddenly took a bad turn and a vet was still outta the question.. i didn't mean to sound like i was recommending euthanizing him right now, especially if you're not even sure something's wrong. hehe, sorry, i just didn't want...
hearing that this started after a tom fight also makes me wonder about the possibility of a deep abscess, STD (yes, they get 'em) or other infectious disease. i'm really sorry, i know what you wanna hear and i understand your predicament, but he probably needs a vet. there are so many different...
