what's different about his behavior to make you think UTI specifically?
unfortunately, the thing with cats is that they hide their pain until it's so bad that they just can't hide it anymore. so by the time you notice, chances are, it's bad. cats can die from UTIs. and it's not a pleasant way...
my apple trees didn't produce a dern thing this year =/ i don't really know why either, my best guess is because we trimmed them heavily last year (they came with this property and look like older trees that have been neglected for years). sorry i'm no help, good luck with your trees!
so we've got three (count 'em, THREE) broody hens at the moment, out of about a dozenish layers. the first momma hen hatched her bitties last week (8 out 10, not bad!) and they're doing wonderfully! they've already figured out the ramp for getting in and out of the coop and momma hen is letting...
going through a sprayed corn field could definitely do it :D though i'd think you'd see her itchy more all over rather than just in the traditional allergy hot spots. poor thing sounds like she's probably got multiple allergies. boxers can be one the sensitive breeds too, many of the bully...
could you put a little "candy jar" type thing on the table, filled with acceptable treats, so that the 2 year old has a better option within reach? i know it's hard to watch everything a 2 year old does, hehe but it might help. if it's a really bad problem, you could always put the dog in a...
i worked for years in a specialty pet food store that focused heavily on providing options and information about allergies :) obviously every dog is different, but in my experience, what you might want to do is switch her to a limited-ingredient diet. so, instead of the fromm's (a fantastic food...
for your dog's ears - get a Q-tip barely moist with warm water and gently poke around inside her ear's little nooks n crannies (but not going down into the ear canal). is there any large buildup of gunk in there? dark brown or black, almost coffee-grounds-ish gunk would indicate ear mites.
just...
Abi - okay, i can't sew or cook, so we'll come kidnap you when the apocalypse is nigh-er :D i can't even knit, i tried to make a scarf once and ended up with the world's most tubular potholder. give me fire, hammers, and metal, and i can beat that into submission just fine... give me cloth or...
that's awesome, what kind(s) of craft do you do? :) and sewing is one of those skills that i'm in total awe of, i'm kinda jealous of people who can do it well. i keep meaning to try to teach myself again, but i keep failing at it. i could make a tiny quilt if you forced me to, but i don't think...
aw, thank you! :) this just made my day hehe. do you make crafty stuff too? i'm such a craftnerd.
well i appreciate the thought! i actually just sold them all, they're gonna go live with the family of the woman we got our goats from. i'm beyond thrilled that they're getting such an awesome...
okay, i can't help myself, here's a couple more photos of my permanent chicken setup :D we've since added another run on the left of the coop, for the grow-out pen.
and then these are our current layers, with their roo, Timmy.
(he's really a sweetheart, he's just very good at stinkeye.)
thanks! i've actually got a couple favorites in the group who i didn't take photos of since they're not for sale, but they're absolutely gorgeous.
we try to keep roughly 10-12 permanent members in our laying flock. we have one coop attached to a BIG run (as far as runs go, about 50'x30') where...
i took some quickie snapshots of some of my mutt pullets yesterday, we have 15 extras at the moment that i'm trying to sell :D i wish people weren't so weird about "mutt" chickens, they're perfectly good birds and turn out so interesting looking too, but they're always so much harder to sell...
:D I actually did watch Buffy off and on during my teen years, but I can't remember very much of it now so I didn't think it counted. I had a couple friends in highschool who were absolutely obsessed with the show though, haha. one of my friends actually bought fake vampire teeth (the really...
I've been lurking around here for quite a while now, posting here and there, and I really like this forum :) Just wanted to maybe be a little more of active participant, and do the whole official introduction thing... I'm not so great at keeping online journals updated, but I'll try, hah.
01...
Does anyone here work from home? Doing what? Pros/cons?
i make and sell silver jewelry (i do metalsmithing as opposed to beadwork). i sell almost exclusively online because i hate shows and large crowds :D it definitely isn't a LOT of money, but it pays my few small bills with enough left over...
i've seen this idea before but not done it myself: make a chicken moat :D surround your garden area with double fencing (netted or just really tall), to make a run encircling the garden. you can either leave an opening in the run for garden entry, or i've seen some clever ways of making a...
