Turkeys are pretty tough birds, the older ones should not be a problem at all. I would just watch the weather and try to pick a warm spell and move them. Since they don't know the new area they will be trying to get back to the old place. You are more than likely going to have to round them up...
We are getting there slowly but surely. The pig pen was started last year and got to about 50% finished when it lost steam. lol On the whole store bought meat thing I can see why the stores have shelf after shelf of sauce and marinade etc etc. :( . You have to have some taste from somewhere I...
How cool is that!!!!!! Last night we had some really nice store bought NY strip steaks for dinner. After the first bite Sharon looked at me and said "does this taste funny to you". It wasn't that it tasted funny, rather it had no taste. It was just bland meat. We are at the point now of about...
The "7-08" passed with flying colors on Saturday. Sharon and I were out on the stand behind the house and a buck decided to cut thru the field in the very back. She couldn't get a good shot so I did. It was about 250 yard shot with a 140 grain bullet, in and out hitting the lungs, the exit wound...
All 4 of our dogs are rescues. It takes them time to settle in and trust you. Our latest addition Lucky had zero dog pack skills and major issues when we got her. We have had her over a year now and it took her a long time to trust and settle in. She went from this at the shelter
to this now...
OFG,
I'll tell you how to keep the power on......... buy a generator.
Where we live the power used to go out if the sun was shinning to bright, the wind was blowing, the wind wasn't blowing. You get the idea. We had a generator anyway since we live in one of the hurricaine ground areas but...
I don't know how many ducks it would take, we just debone the legs and put them in a 1 gallon ziplock bag with the giblets. A full bag is probably 10 pounds of meat - ish :)
Duck breast you say? You mean these wonderful things?
One of the best recipes we have found for duck breast is...
We use colored zip ties for marking our birds. If you use them on poults you have to keep a close eye on them as they grow, they can grow into the leg. On adults you can put them on very loose, double the size of the leg.

Duck Sausage
Here is the recipe we use for duck sausage. For the meat we use the leg 1/4's and giblets
recipe as follows for 10 pounds of meat
10 pounds duck
1/2 cup dry red wine
2 Tablespoon white pepper
2 Tablespoon salt
2 teaspoon mustard seed
1 tespoon black pepper
1 teaspoon sage

I never liked stuffing right from the grinder into the casing. It's hard to control the flow, with the stuffer you can just keep a steady pressure on the handle with having to crank the handle.

This is the grinder we use, it's a hand grinder but it works great. We got the plated cast iron looking back should have got the stainless steel. With cast iron it will rust so you need to store it in mineral oil. We use an old cooler and store it in the oil...
It's the number of points on the rack, the diameter of the horns at the base and I think the length of the main antlers. Say 2 people had an 8 point buck, who had the bigger/ better animal? That's where the other factors come in, it's basicly just bragging rights...
Doesn't everybody do that? And to scrape or not to scrape depends on how thick the mold is yes?
I wish I could have gotten a pic of the look on Sharon's face when I opened a jar of 4 or 5 year old pickled beets for dinner one night. :)

It's funny or maybe sad would be a better word how things have changed from our grandparents to parents to us regarding food in general. Just look at the whole foods compared to the processed garbage.

I just eat the grains as is, kind of sour tasting but you get used to it. Sharon makes a smoothie out of the milk, I just drink some of the milk.

It's supposed to be down right chilly this weekend! I'll split some extra wood for the fireplace on Friday. The only bad thing about that is I live with 5 "heat sucking" females! I have the whole living room to myself - well the 4 dogs are laid up on the couch. So... I get a fire started, it's...
