The problem with the torch idea, is that it does kill the micro-organisms in the soil... I would pull them and add them to the compost pile, or feed them to the chickens. I think the nitrogen issue is resolved, once you have mature plants. Happy Gardening!
I had some customers pick the only 3 apples on a little apple tree. I knew it was humans, since only a bite or two were taken- and then the remaining part was tossed on the ground! Ugh!
I had them digging under my fence around the pumpkin patch. I took human hair (swept up from a barber shop) and lined the perimeter of the fence with it. It has worked, for a month, so far... It is not the most attractive thing- but if your gardens aren't right out front- it works! Congrats...

A friend brought me a giant bag of human hair, from the barbershop. I am sure it wouldn't keep big predators out- but it has kept the woodchuck from digging under the fence in my pumpkin garden...Can't get Dh to do the pee thing!!
Oh how I love YouTube- thanks for posting that! That is a really cool use for a swimming pool- regardless of what you think of the future! I was kind of disappointed they were eating Ramen noodles...
I picked organic this year, at a friends one acre field. The berries were perfect- I did not see any bug damage at all. The leaves were uneaten. I don't notice anything bothering my plants in the home garden either...I just don't get it. Every article you read- says eat more fruits and...
I had heard this awhile ago. It seems to me, by the time those carrots are processed into that cute size and I buy them in the store-the nutritional value has got to be just about nil...I grow my own baby carrots- plant your seed close together and when you thin them out, you will have adorable...
