Hey there, Welcome to SS :) I am a semi-lurker on here too, post once in awhile. More frequent on the sister site BYC.
ANYWAYS. I only read up to page 12? I think? But I think in your confusion you are almost asking for us to help "revise" your eating plan? I also hope you don't eat chicken...
Does it make me weird to want to be SS but have some fancies in life too? :hide assuming we could afford it, i'd love an inground pool, a nicer fancier car, a nice trimmed front lawn. But in the back i'd love a chicken coop, a huge garden that supports our family through most of the year, a pond...
I also recommend the portable bouncy chair. Then they can check out what your doing, be fairly close to you, and have things to look at! I would normally second letting crawl in a playpen/garden but you'll be spending more time making sure hes not eating anything!! lol.
I would take your 20-30...
:lauAnna)
Whining IS the number 1 Italian sport, take it from a Sicilian!! :lau I love whinning.
You may also just have expensive eating habits!! There is only so far you can lower a grocery bill with what you're able to do outside of the home, and this may be your limit?
Europeans eat to...
You can do it Free! Get pictures! I hope to be raising feeder pigs next year, and need all the help I can get! ;) BR has a good step by step on ohiogirl's blog (which I LOVE btw, you are frickin' funny) but it's always good to see different ways/pictures!
You will love yourself some of that...
Well, just give him lots of soda and Mcdonald's and he should fatten up just fine!
After all, that's what those charts are based off of. Averages. Obesity in America? The AVERAGE. Sadly, children are following suite.
My son is 2 1/2 and he weights about 24 lbs. The dr always says he...
Thanks for the responses guys! Didn't realize the tenderloin was the "backstraps" and was different from the loin! Good to know, more meat ;) Who on earth would grind up the backstraps and put them in sausage?!?! that's a crime!
So, when you look at a pig diagram (like the one posted) you can...
Uhm...:hide I process all my things without a rack, as I didn't have one. Seeing as they are on the hottest part of the burner, it will be fine. The only issue you have to worry about is hot spots that could cause breakage.
However, now that I know about the rings...I got a new method! Thanks...
Am I wrong in thinking tenderloin is part of chops? I think thats how it goes, so if you get tenderloin, I think you get ribs. If you want chops it's the tenderloin plus the ribs...or something.
I'm new to pig anatomy, so I may be wrong :) If this is the case however, and you got a whole pig...
I thought with invasive species there was no method of catch? I thought you can net them, spear them, whatever them. I may be wrong. In Illinois river, they have a convention every year that I believe is called the "redneck fishing tournie" which boats with 4-5 people go out and catch the fish...
Hello!
I'm new to canning, but wanted to just pip in. It seems most of the things you listed can be canned by water bath canning, unless you wanted to put you peppers in water (I was assuming pickled hot peppers). Stock will need to be pressure canned, and I am kinda in the same scenario as...
I do! I have some oak and maple logs that were cut down last month from some bad storms. So I do have other options!
I have a couple of the "easily manageable" ones my hubby put to the side for me. Now I just need to order the spawn!
Pat) Do you have any tips from the workshop about growing...
Okay, after doing some research I found why you state they should be cut while dormant.
SO. I should be okay with the logs that were cut. It also says on that website that you can inoculate logs up to 2-3 weeks before frost, so that the mycelium has built up enough to survive winter.
Growing...

Ahh, okay. I figured it wasn't rotting fast enough so why not put it to work! haha. It'd been sitting there for a couple years already. Maybe if I have a few extra plugs I'll throw them in the birch stump. Just to see if they do anything. And if they rot the stump for me faster and I get...
I have a sneaky feeling Free does, cause that woman does EVERYTHING! Fermenting, Cheese making, piggie raising....
Anyways, was wondering if anyone grows mushrooms! I have a rotting birch stump in my front yard, and want to drill it and innoculate it with oyster mushrooms. It's shaded perfectly...
Ok, I'm not sure if this fits your standards, but I saw on Food Network (Alton Brown) He did an episode on herbs. What he did to dry them was to layer them in air filters that you get at the hardware store. He then clamped them together and bungee corded them to the front of a box fan. Turn on...
