Please forgive my ignorance. I know my question is a very basic one. I am just getting started with home canning; my All American pressure canner arrived the other day. I was looking for canning supplies so I went to Walmart, but they did not sell the jars at that particular store. My next stop...
I finally got around to ordering a pressure canner the other day. I decided on the All American brand (21 quart model). It should arrive sometime this week. I suppose it will take me awhile to learn how to use it; then I will be able to post in the thread called "What are you canning today"...
I am not sure, maybe to take our minds off the upcoming pandemic. Just kidding...:D
Seriously, I can't say that I believe in UFOs; but I remember reading awhile back when Edgar Mitchell (ex-astronaut) made some comments about UFOs. Apparently, he believes they do exist. Those comments really...
Ask neighbors, friends, relatives, co-workers, etc to save their egg cartons for you. That is what we did; now we have more than we will ever need. We give a lot of eggs away to people so I guess that also motivates them to save the cartons for us.
I made the above comment in an earlier post, just thinking out loud. Apparently, there are others that have had similar thoughts as well. Although purposely exposing other people (especially children) to the H1N1 virus seems reckless and irresponsible in my opinion, I might consider something...
Absolutely! In fact, I was in Wal-mart yesterday; and someone had a newborn baby with them. Every time I heard the baby cry, I would cringe just thinking how crazy that was to bring a newborn baby out in public right now with the possibility of swine flu going around. We do have confirmed cases...
Wow! That is nice. I was just thinking today about practicing with my new sewing machine. So far, I have only used it for hemming things like pants. Something like this would be a good first project for me. I have not done much sewing in quite a long time.
This is a good point. Even if the H1N1 flu virus fizzles out and there is no serious outcome, the whole notion of preparedness is a smart thing to do. Regardless of the disaster or event, the same principles still apply for them all so I don't necessarily plan and prepare for specific events...
The pandemic alert level is at "5", but the recovery rate for the H1N1 flu virus is very good. I am trying to think of something positive to say here. ;)
pandemic alert level
As far as face masks go, if in a hurry, you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy respirators in the painting section...

I don't watch TV that much; but admittedly, I am an internet news junkie. I have almost weened myself off YouTube, but looks like I just replaced one addiction for another. lol
About the flu, I have been reading the news as the swine flu story unfolds. It is quite fascinating and an interest of...
I stayed at home. I can always save money when I don't go anywhere. That may seem simplistic, but it works for me. ;)
Edit: I will keep reading in this thread to get other people's ideas to save money as well. The 45 pages should keep me busy for awhile.
Yeah, I think in many cases, they just add some zeros to an account or something to create the new money. It is mostly computerized; but basically, it is the same as printing money. Even if they balance the budget, which I don't think will happen considering all the government spending and...
Unfortunately, I do not have any formal education in economics; but maybe that is a good thing. Due to my lack of knowledge, I have to view this current economic crisis through the eyes of common sense instead. Since this recent crisis began, I have been trying to learn a little economics (on...
My suggestion would be to try some vital wheat gluten in your recipe. I started adding that to all my bread recipes, and that seems to help it rise better. As some people have already mentioned, homemade bread will be more dense than store bought bread. I will admit; I am still searching for...
Last year was my first year experimenting by growing from seed. It can be very frustrating at first, and I completely understand why people buy starter plants. I lost count of the numerous seedlings that died last year, but I kept practicing through the entire summer and reading information on...
